New year, new me, new you?

Hello and happy new year! :)

I hope you're doing well and got a good start to 2025. In this little update post I want to address just a couple things including one question for you :D

First of all, I want to say thank you, thank you so much for the massive support here on Patreon, I am so so grateful! I'm so happy that all the work I've been putting into this project here over the past 2,5 years is resonating with you and can be of value to you in some way or another.

Speaking of value, I've been wondering... how can I better help you?

Currently my Patreon consists of Lightroom Presets, postcards and videos. The first two are pretty clear to me, however the videos are a little tricky. The videos have been a mix of Lightroom tutorials, colour grading tutorials, video production tutorials such as lighting and some occasional non-tutorials.

I got a kind message from a Patron asking me to go over the colour grade I did for the Akizuki-video, which I'm of course happy to share. This message however made me realise that it can be difficult for me to guess what tutorial would be the most useful to you. Thus I would like to know, what kind of tutorial has been very valuable to you, what you liked, what you disliked and whether you're silently hoping for me to finally produce something that I haven't shown yet. This can be tutorials for something more specific, such as the exact colouring process for the Akizuki video. Or something quite different such as me editing photos that were sent in by Patrons or something like that.

So if you have any thoughts, feedback or ideas, please feel free to share in the comments, I'd love to start the year with some fresh ideas for the coming months and make 2025 the best year yet for you here on Patreon :))

Thank you <3

New year, new me, new you?

Thanks for the response! Looking forward to it!!

Hi Brandon, welcome to the Patreon! :D Ohh great, thanks for the info. Please do dive into the collections of past content, because I've covered colour grading and sound before :) The settings video for the Sony, which I do still use, will come this month! Spoiler: I don't shoot in Slog-2, so I can't speak from much experience. Also spoiler 2 and a hot take: 10-bit is overrated haha

T

I just joined the Patreon but +1 to this! I am also shooting with an A7III (if you even still shoot with that) and wanted to know how you get around the slog2 non-10 bit footage! I still have yet to go through the collections but absolutely love the color grade of your videos and would love to see more of your process there! Maybe editing tips as well (sound/titles/text)!

Hi Yuliya, thank you so much for the kind comment! I'm happy that you're satisfied with what there is so far. I'll keep your preferences in mind, that's some great input, thank you! :)

Happy New Year Teo and thank you for all this knowledge you share with us. I already find a lot of what I need in the topics you address in your existing videos. I love anything on cinematic filmmaking and also anything on mobile phone cinematic film making. For a long time I was hesitant to film with a phone and was caring my camera, but the problem was well I didn't actually bring it with me everywhere. Your iphone video inspired me and I started shooting more on mobile and oh how I am happy I did. :) So yea, any tutorials on filming/grading mobile log footage is welcome! And thanks again for all your work!

Yuliya

Oh, I didn't know about those! I'll look into them, but happy with an update also if you feel like they deserve one/have new tips to share! ☺️

Hi Noah, thank you very much for the kind words! Wishing you a great year too :) Ohhh my, that sounds challenging! I'm happy if I can be of any help with my videos. Thank you for your input! Honestly when it comes to those meta-videos about making YouTube videos, I'm a little unsure how many would be interested and I find it hard to gauge in how much depth I should go. There are some basic things that need to be said but then also... I've been doing this for over 7 years at this point, so obviously I could talk about it forever haha. But the reason I am hesitant to make a video is that I find that it all can be summarised in one very small yet important point that doesn't appear worthy of a video (I think?): Consistency is all. Everything in this game stems from consistency. I'll think about it... maybe it is worth a video... not sure :,D If you ever get any more ideas, please do share! Thank you so much for the detailed comment :) Liebe Grüße! <3

Cool, thank you for the input! If all goes well, the next Patreon video should be about my Sony A7iii settings :) I've done some testing with HLG3 BT.2020 and have now gathered my thoughts hehe :D

T

Ahhh ok! I've made a couple tutorials on post processing film before - have you watched those? However they could need an update, so I think I might make a new one in which I touch on your points. Thanks for the input! :)

T

Ohh lol, that could be fun... or boring hahah, most of the time I'm just on the computer editing :,D Thanks for the input! :)

T

Ahh ok, thanks for the input! I'm working on a video about the settings, as in colour profiles and such, but I can make another one that specifically explains the process of shooting with the camera, which I think could help you. I'll keep this in mind, thank you! :)

T

Sorry to keep you waiting! I'm trying to catch up on those.

T

Hi Antonella, thank you! :) Ahh I see. I've actually made a couple videos here on Patreon that cover a lot of the topics you've mentioned. I recommend that you go to the "Collections" Tab on my Patreon page where you'll find a collection called "The mixed bag" which contains specifically those videos that are not colour grading or editing tutorials. In the collection you'll also find two lighting tutorials, which I think could help you :)

T

Happy New Year and thank you for all of your videos!! Excited to see what 2025 brings. Lately I’ve been trying to get more into Cinematography but I’ve realized I struggle a lot with the lighting, the set up and where to position the subject depending on that, etc. Is there a way you can explain or show us your lighting set up for your talking videos or reenacted videos? That’ll be of a lot help. Either way, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all and lots of good vibes for you in this new year!

I’m still waiting for the old presets to be available in dng format 😔

I would like to see a tutorial on your camera settings for your Sony and video shooting in general like what kind of white balance and aperture you use for different lighting, I have the same camera you do and I’ve been having trouble in that area

Dean501st

Unrelated to any tutorials but I would honestly love a day in the life style video! I think that'd just be neat lol.

Happy new year everyone~! Just wanted to chime in regarding Patreon videos. I don't do much videography (yet?) myself but I really loved the Lightroom tutorials. The ones on the calibration tab and the transform tool (to get things straight) especially really helped me to make better edits! One thing I still struggle with on Lightroom is how to edit film scans the best and to what length you can/should not go in order not to lose the original film stock look (but maybe I'm just lacking some color theory basis here hmmm) Anyhow, Happy January! Lucie

I'm using a Sony A7III as well, and I saw your comment on an earlier post about making a video about all your Sony A7III settings, and your LOG profiles. I understood you have been shooting with HLG2 and Rec.709, but trying out HLG3 and BT.2020. This would be my favorite video here, as I think the A7III is great even with only 8-bit colors.

First of all: happy new year! i hope it’ll be a great one and i wish you all the best for it teo!! regarding the videos: i recently watched lots of your tutorials since you inspired me to also make some youtube videos. what helped me a lot was the video about the „basics“ of color grading in adobe premiere. color grading for video is very hard for me because i’m colorblind and hearing you talk about what effect each „button“ has was very helpful. what i would love to see: - what was challenging when you started doing youtube videos? which advice would you give your „younger self“? (or people that want to start;)) - editing patron photos is a nice idea i think! i’d also love to see how you’d edit some of my photos, but i wouldn’t want it „too often“ because i think your tutorials would be more helpful most of the time. still a fun addition!! i’ll let you know when i have more ideas. i just subscribed last month and i have to say i’m very happy with everything you do on here! excited for what you’ll present us this year. <3 noah
