May LR Preset: Fuji FURUI 400

Hello! I hope you've all had a decent May! <3

Mine was pretty cool. Started with meeting a couple old friends and then had mostly a lot of work to do throughout the month. I was working on the videos of course, but also on the short film I shot back in February. I finally began editing and have made some progress, but I'm far from finished... maybe around 45%. However I now have different work that is more pressing, so I'm afraid this is still going to take a while.

Also I'm so happy that the video in collaboration with Thypoch was finally released. As you might have noticed in the video, it was shot in Winter, in fact back in January. Thypoch had a couple delays with their release so I had this finished video sitting around unpublished for a while haha :D

Also, on a random note from my personal life, I signed up to a gym. I never felt attracted to that type of exercise, but I've been wanting to try it to build up more strength and not only move my body in running/walking based sports such as hiking. To my surprise I've been really enjoying it. At first I thought I'd go twice a week, but currently I've been going every second day. Let's see if this is just beginner's-enthusiasm or a sustainable addition to my lifestyle.

Anyway, enough May-throwbacking, let's talk about this month's Preset. I made a film (-simulation) for fun haha, it's called Fuji FURUI 400. Slightly stronger grain, like a 400 ISO film, lot's of green, more than Fuji themselves actually have.

"Furui" is the Japanese word for "old" by the way. It's a green hued, old and almost expired feeling look - perfect for anyone looking for a slightly lofi or analogue aesthetic. I've found that it best works on urban photographs shot in rather soft lighting, such as the light you get on a cloudy day. However as you can see in the previews, I have tested it on sunnier photos and even some landscapes and it still works pretty well I find.

It begins to struggle however, when you apply the preset to high-contrast scenes and skin tones. Skin tones will certainly not stay true-to-life with this preset, however with a little bit of tint-correction they can look alright actually.

So, as always, please make minor adjustments to your edit after applying the preset. I've always added mine as a little note next to each preview.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or write me a message via Patreon's DMs.

Wishing you a lovely weekend! <3

Yes, I will get around to that. I'm going to gradually add .dng files to all the presets I've ever shared, but this will take some time. Once it's done I'll let you know :))

T

Are you able to create a DNG file out of this to use with LR mobile? I do not have the desk top version as I'm trying to use the free mobile version only to apply presets

Victoria Chen

well then i guess lightroom pc is worth buying now

Ahhh thank you so much for the info, that's really helpful. For sure, then I'll add a .dng too from now on :D

Hello Teo! I just wanted to pop in after seeing the recent comment about not being able to import these presets to mobile. .xmp files currently aren’t compatible with mobile, but for the future you could consider including a .dng image (any image) with the preset applied as a separate download along side the .xmp. This would allow mobile users to download the .dng image, import it into Lightroom mobile, and save the preset. Hope that helps :)

Ohh no, I’m sorry about that. To be honest I really don’t know much about LR mobile any more because I last used that like 5 years ago🫣 Have you checked various YouTube tutorials? Or maybe it is indeed possible that they’re not compatible, but I wouldn’t have thought so, because why would Adobe do that!?😅

T

oh hey Teo! I’m having problems with importing the file to lightroom mobile. I’m not sure if the file is compatible with the app? Any help ??

lol instagram is so funny in that way being a platform for sharing photos! thanks for the reply!!

Joss

Hi Joss! Haha no problem. I use an app called Unfold. It's not perfect, in fact, I used to make my posts in Photoshop, but that became an annoying process, whereas Unfold is a very smooth and easy process, hence I switched and accepted the slight loss in quality seeing as it doesn't really matter on IG anyway, because the platform compresses photos to death anyway lol :,D

T

hello Teo!! This is completely unrelated to this amazing preset, I was just wondering what software/app you use to format your photos for instagram on the white background. Thanks so much!

Joss

Ahh that’s so cool! No worries about your English, it’s perfectly fine! Thank you for your kind words🙏🏼 Wishing you happiness all the way back✨🫶🏼

I have been following a TV series called Tokyo Vice recently, which is fantastic.I found that it's color is similar to the urban grey you made!haha. My English is not good, hope I don't make too much mistakes.Wish you happiness,Teo.

Yi.an Wang

Cheers to that hehe! Thanks for you encouragement☺️🫶🏼

Thanks for the update, Teo! I hope your training journey continues, it will make a great addition to your life! Regardless if it sticks or not, cheers to doing something different and challenging.
