Update Open-Source Engine Simulator?
Added 2022-09-28 01:07:47 +0000 UTCHey everyone! As you may have noticed, I released a video yesterday where I showed new features like unequal length headers and more advanced filtering to reduce artifacts. I was intending for these changes to be closed-source and available only to Patrons via a private release of the application. However, some Patrons have requested that new features be included in the open-source version of Engine Simulator. If this happens, the names of all current Patrons will be added to the open-source codebase for posterity: https://github.com/ange-yaghi/engine-sim
I'll leave this as a poll. Let me know what you think! NOTE: this does not apply to the final Steam version of Engine Simulator which is a completely separate project

I appreciate the additions being made open-source. :)
2022-10-21 19:41:44 +0000 UTCI think its important to keep the breadcrums going out in the open source/public version to keep 'excitement ' and exposure for the project high, not all features mind you, but just enough to keep the hype train going.

2022-09-28 12:22:21 +0000 UTCI think everything related to the engine building should be open source, while everything that's quality of life (i.e. UI) should be closed source. The easy way should be the paid way, while the free way works 100% and has all the features, but it's harder to use.

2022-09-28 06:46:41 +0000 UTCWell the original version of the game (the free one) is already open-source so nothing will change there. The "real" version of the game that I'm working on will not be open-source though. This poll is related to updating the open-source version

2022-09-28 06:16:36 +0000 UTCI think it's too early for open source although it may be because I'm not quite famliar with IT realm yet. I realise you've put loads of work into that and if I were you I would be afraid that someone would just take the code and be like HEY I MADE DIS BEFORE YOU

2022-09-28 06:14:53 +0000 UTCI believe that the source should have these changes, while the release has a simple switch that disables advanced patron-only features. People can compile the version with advanced features or become a Patron (like RHEL and Fedora, or Fritzing)
2022-09-28 02:07:47 +0000 UTCGood idea!

2022-09-28 01:24:31 +0000 UTCI would add a potential 3rd suggestion, release to patrons with something like a 2 week delay then release to public, gives Patreons the bleeding edge (even if it breaks a bit)
2022-09-28 01:13:34 +0000 UTCAre you gona wait until your have enough votes to release the update at all or you release like in 1h
