The coloring process

Thank you for your continued support!

Today I would like to share my coloring process with you all.

1️⃣First, once I have decided what to draw, draw a rough sketch.

This rough sketch is the first thing I present to a client who requests a commission.

Draw rough lines to convey the overall feel of the illustration.

I love this step the most!

I feel like I can draw the most lively expressions because I can draw lines freely without feeling nervous.

2️⃣ Next, I put the colors I have in mind onto the rough sketch.

This step is added to check the overall color balance.

I enjoy drawing rough color sketches like this one too.

This second step takes about an hour.

3️⃣Once I have adjusted the overall color balance, I can then clean up the line art.

This is the most stressful part of the process, so I don't like it😂

Compared to the dynamic lines used in the rough sketch, this process emphasizes precision and requires repeated redrawing of lines.

It's very stressful and requires a lot of concentration, so it takes a lot of time.

Once the lineart is complete, paint the larger areas with the base color.

This process takes around 4 hours

4️⃣ Once the base color is done, it's time for shading.

This process greatly affects the overall atmosphere of the illustration.

The atmosphere of an illustration can change dramatically depending on whether I use rich, precise shading or light, simple shading.

I choose the one that best suits the character and atmosphere at the time.

5️⃣Once the overall shading of the character is complete, add the background and effects.

This is also the process for adding highlights.

The most fun part is adding highlights to the eyes.

What did you think?

My process is very simple and not too complicated.

However, it takes an average of eight hours to draw one piece.

I'm not a full-time illustrator, so I only have a limited amount of time to draw each day.

For that reason, it takes me about 3 to 4 days to draw one illustration.

I hope to one day work as a full-time illustrator✨

But I'm very happy to be able to work like this and draw in my free time.

And I'm really grateful to everyone who has requested such wonderful commissions.

I hope that my illustration process will interest you at least a little.
