The Bastards Guide to 3D Models

Please note that this guide is in its preliminary phase and may appear rough around the edges, as I've only JUST learned this. Despite that fact, I thought it would be beneficial to share it with the Patron community so they can hit the ground crawling like me!

Rest assured, I am currently in the process of refining the workflow and mastering the techniques myself. Once completed, I will release an updated version with a more professional and streamlined workflow.

Your feedback and queries are greatly appreciated. If any section of the guide is unclear, or if you're puzzled about any aspect, please feel free to comment or send me a direct message. I am more than willing to provide additional tips, tricks, and clarifications on any areas I may have skimmed over.

I am excited to announce that I am in the process of creating an official guide focused on VS style editing. This comprehensive guide will cover the most common tips and tricks I regularly utilize in my work. Stay tuned for further updates, all of which will hitherto be included in the Friday release post!

WALKTHROUGH GUIDE - Version 0.5

STEP 1: Generate a Character (https://www.midjourney.com/home/?callbackUrl=%2Fapp%2Farchive%2F)

  1. Utilize the MidJourney platform and enter specifications such as “t-pose, full body, symmetrical, spread arms, front view” into the prompt.
  2. Upload a visual reference image into chat, access its URL, and include that in the prompt.
  3. Repeatedly generate until you find the perfect t-pose.Optional Step: In cases where your character is beast/skeleton, and the ICON software struggles to identify a humanoid, you can generate clothes in MidJourney to make them more standard, then use the BG REMOVER tool to isolate them. Finally, paste the clothes onto your skeleton.

STEP 2: Upload into ICON (https://huggingface.co/spaces/Yuliang/ICON)

  1. Upload your image and click “SUBMIT IMAGE.”
  2. Download the generated “clothed human.”

STEP 3: Apply Texture (https://www.blender.org/)

  1. Create an empty scene in Blender (delete the cube), and import your model.
  2. Navigate to UV EDITING.
  3. View from the front.
  4. Enable X-Ray mode.
  5. Select the model, choose “EDIT OBJECT” then "project from view".
  6. Switch to the Shading tab, add the object, then add an image texture (select the picture of your character!)
  7. Align the image properly in UV editing mode.
  8. Add any desired finishing touches if you're comfortable with Blender.
  9. Export the final model with "COPY" on (and embed textures).

STEP 4: Upload to Mixamo (https://www.mixamo.com/#/?page=3)

  1. Set the bones.
  2. Download the FBX or GLB files.

STEP 5: Upload to Plask (https://motion.plask.ai/)

  1. Film your motion.
  2. Download and edit in Blender in the standard way, or you can use the alternative technique described in the video.
