Cursed Child is absolutely abysmal. I'm a fan of HP in general and love plays (especially over musicals) but all of it was just. So. Cringe. That being said, I'd love a Jenny video on such a garbage waste of money. There were some cool effects though! I guarantee those IATSE employees weren't paid enough.

The Christmas Prince castle you're talking about is Peles Castle. It's in Romania and it's sort of a historical building. But it's not a real castle. It's really just a mansion built to look like one. I appreciate that the Romanian-ness is sort of present in the movie too. They didn't just find a pretty building in Romania and pretend it was... like, France or something. And the actors in the battle seen do sort of resemble Huns. But Nobody in the actual movie actually looks Romanian.

Rewatching this ramble reminded me of something. Jenny's point about mysteries hiding a key detail (like the butler's family history) being unfair is my biggest issue (of two) with classic Veronica Mars as a series. Much as I loved the show, they were nearly always hiding the one detail that solved the Big Mystery until the finale.

Unrelated, but I remember Jenny mentioning a couple of times she was planning on going to the Efteling and wanted to recommend Toverland, it's another theme park in NL and I have been a couple of times. It's got some interesting characters, and areas themed after Ithaca and Avalon. It's a bit more targeted towards younger children but if you're already going to the Netherlands it might be worth it! It also has a dark ride called Merlin's quest.

I had to check the release date to figure out if I was pregnant when it aired (no, but I think I was for the first one?), and I find all the pregnancy-related stuff kind of tedious, too. Actually, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was much more likely to watch your videos than obsess about other people's babies and pregnancies.

I love how when Amber at the climax said "Someone in this room stole the treaty!" and its a tacit admition (although I dont think they filmakers realized it) that these movies are so low budget that they cant even hire extras to "populate" the castle. These people are literal royals yet theres not a single maid, or cook or stable hand working on the palace, They dont even have a live-in doctor despite the fact the queen mother is in her elder years and the princess has cerebral palsy. I know thats kinda of weird thing to fixate on, but its pretty noticibale if you so much as think about it Elleri... thats some GOT-ass name

I think its fascinating how these genre movies always operate under the assumption that the made-up countries are microstates in Western Europe like Andorra or San Marino but at the 9:30 mark we see a map of Aldovia and its huge! and in Eatern Europe...?

Hey Jenny! Professional opera singer/voice teacher here. Have you thought about how you support your speaking voice? As a YouTuber, you are definitely a professional vocalist, so you need to use your abdominal muscles to support the sound the way an opera singer does. It will definitely help with regards to longterm vocal health, although I would recommend seeing an ENT and speech language pathologist given how often you have been losing your voice.

It drives me crazy that ALL the royalty, even from other countries, speak with an extremely affected posh English accent.

It always seems amusing that in a series called The Christmas Prince, the prince himself is the most bland character of all the cast. You could write him out of one of these movies in the first 5 mins, bring him back right at the end, and you almost wouldn't notice.   Weirdly, I think the Christmas Prince video was the first video of Jenny's that I watched from beginning to end. I was doing some work and had YouTube on autoplay on my tv, the CP video came on and I ended up watching it more than working lol. Good luck with the Hugo Awards Jenny!

Oh man when I first watched this I rewound the part where Emily says the baby will be cursed like three times, I adore it. She takes it SO seriously. Magic is not established to exist in this universe, and yet.... Though I *think* there's a nod to the fake country in The Knight Before Christmas. Like someone has an ornament from there? And magic is 100% established in that universe, so maybe the curse was real after all. (For the record, the Princess Switch trilogy is my favorite of the Netflix Christmas movies. The last one gets bad reviews, but I think they just don't understand the art that is having three Vanessa Anne Hudgens's impersonating one another)

My YouTube recommendations have been pushing "The Grim Dystopia of the Christmas Prince" pretty hard lately. Even through my parents' YouTube after I made them watch the Avatar and Evan Hansen videos. YouTube knew what was coming and wanted me prepared. The thing is I have a Mr. Little-style blood oath to stan anyone from iZombie, so this was a fun way to see what Rose McIvor (Queen Amber) did on Christmas Prince 3 while maintaining my streak of never actually watching a Christmas Prince movie. Hooray for that! Also I'm sure I'm not the only one to say it but I'm fine to wait two weeks for a ramble so you can take care of yourself, hope you continue to feel better.

I think it's just that these are the types of videos the patrons have been voting for. Remember, it's the higher tier patrons that end up deciding the ramble, not Jenny herself (unless there is a tie)! Hopefully next time people can suggest something that isn't "Jenny watches a movie".

Loved this, Jenny! Regarding what you said about these types of movies being very kind of soulless and bland with the romance without even trying to make it more fun, I totally agree. I watch a lot of Korean dramas and I notice a lot of US media outlets often compare romantic Korean dramas to Hallmark movies due to the relative conservative nature of your average Korean public broadcast romance (because public broadcasters have censors to follow so their content is suitable for most audiences), but they make the character dynamics a lot more interesting and have much better production values even when they fall into similar tropes. A lot of this is because, obviously, Hallmark movies are a niche section of the US industry and they don't exactly attract the best actors or screenwriters/directors while a Kdrama romance is mainstream in the industry and is more capable of getting famous and capable cast and crew (and money). I really like recommending Kdramas to Hallmark-esque romance fans who want something a little different but still somewhat conservative because of this! Of course, with the rise of cable and streaming shows things are changing a lot and you can definitely find some less conservative K-romances out there, but I still think they appeal to the demographic that likes to watch these types of movies--as long as they're open to reading subtitles.

Then it turns out the curse was real and the treaty was stolen by the Home Depot 12 foot pumpkin skeleton who needs to be defeated by the magic of Christmas.

I know they’re in a castle so it makes sense to have a dungeon but I kind of wish the dungeon was just a massive storage in the basement that they called the dungeon because it’s where they store all the decorations for other holidays that have been banned in Aldovia. ONLY CHRISTMAS put the other holidays in Christmas jail

the structure you mentioned for a romantic movie series is a good one, and I know because the lovely Renaissance Fair themed romance book series Well Met does it. having new romances each book means you don’t have to have some contrived conflict in the original couple, and having them be minor characters feels more like seeing old friends. 10/10 would recommend (unlike this mediocre movie)

If that's what Jenny wants to do with the rambles now, fine, but I have to say reaction videos (even from Jenny!) are the most boring kind of content to me. And I'm a person who watches mathtube. The best part of a late ramble is that another is right around the corner. As for the movie, the sets seem so sparsely populated with extras, I was convinced this had been filmed during the pandemic and released last Christmas. Turns out, it just looks cheap!

Wow. Peace treaties don't work that way. Each side should have AT LEAST one copy of the treaty. Technically, wars have to be DECLARED. They don't just automatically happen if a treaty isn't renewed.
