Frank Cifaldi, Tim Rogers and Brandon Sheffield cover that big Sony event, art styles for games, and the thrilling return of Violence Island. Hosted by Alex Jaffe, with Frank Cifaldi, Tim Rogers, and Brandon Sheffield. Edited by Esper Quinn, original music by Kurt Feldman.

Questions this week:

  1. How ‘bout that Playstation showcase?
  2. Other than “realistic,” “cel shaded,” and “pixel art,” name some video game art styles.
  3. Write some of those in-game Elder Scrolls books.
  4. What would make those in-game Elder Scrolls books worth reading?
  5. LeFish asks: What is the finding out that Santa isn’t real of video games?
  6. Tim Rogers asks: HotB, or sofubi?
  7. What car should be in every video game with cars?
  8. When do you block, when do you dodge, and when do you parry?
  9. Is there a system you’ve played every game for?

I'm sure the bible on gameboy is a thing you do because why the heck not, but I would really be fascinated to hear from someone who legitimately used that for some real purpose. The different art styles discussion was the highlight for me. In my head, the original Phantasy Star Online has lived as a very specific style. Between the characters, weapons, locations and image chat it just felt like its own thing. But how unique is it really when Burning Rangers is right there and that darn menu screen is its own amazing work of art?

Stuck in a Virginia mountain town Summer School with no internet back in 1999.... Led me to read about every lore book in Baldur's Gate. The only time Lore books have ever seen appealing, offering a rabbit hole escape from the mooing cows into a Fantasy world.

The Q having to use wifi is the wildest thing to me, it is less functional than the wii u's game pad thst way (which was $99 to replace/buy standalone) and Tim's comment about the potential bargin bin price, I said $129.99 has to the price to buddy of mines and he too said "pricing it that low would make people suspicious, it has to be $199.99." . And I kind of yielded to the suggestion with the understanding that it broadcasted locally without needing for internet. It just isn't worth it even for the niche without that convenience.
