OMG, yes! I was so scarred by Watership Down. We were assigned the book in a community program in AZ called Vanguard. For 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, every Wednesday, you go to school like normal, but get on another bus to go to another smallish building with 6 rooms. "Gifted" children from 4 of the other schools in the district also sent their kids. Literature was one of the four classes/rooms. The book was kind of scary. We watched the animated film on the last day of 4th grade. Two people threw up, a boy asked to go to the bathroom and then just left the building and walked home, and there was a lot of sobbing after the movie's end. I think there was this expectation that, because we were the smartest, we would also have a higher emotional IQ In fact, because we were great students we were often studying and doing homework. Socializing was very limited.

100% agree. I've been to, like, 6 theme parks in my decades of life. I have no plans to actually go to more, so I enjoy Jenny's visits vicariously. Plus, I agree that watching someone who loves what they're talking about makes me enthusiastic by proxy.

This time I don't think we made it into the land at all, I guess because we weren't trying to ride Soarin so we just kept forgetting I'd love to eat at Magellan's someday which I think is also in that land, iirc they actually had a veggie course which most of the "fancy" restaurants didn't. Jenny, did you explore the renaissance section of Disney Sea at all? There are so many cool interior rooms you can explore that are part of a DaVinci scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt is in Japanese, but you can get through it with a translator on your phone. You can also explore the rooms without doing the scavenger hunt.

Re: Best biznessdizzishins: Disney Princess costumes. I remember going to a Disney Store in Tampa sometime in late 2000 or early 2001 and they had Disney Princess dresses. And the Store employee dressed my little sister (6-7) in one of the dresses. It kinda got out of hand, and of course I had no money so I felt really bad about wasting his time. Re: Star Wars Land and Star Wars has too many distinct environments for it to make sense. YES! It would have been cool if they had made an entire park out of Star Wars. Each part of the park could be one of the single-ecosystem planets and you'd take a spaceship from one to the next. And you hedge so that if Star Wars becomes unpopular, then you can evolve it into EcoWorld and get rid of the sci-fi aspects. Tatooine becomes DesertLand , Endor becomes JungleLand, Hoth becomes IceLand, Coruscant becomes a generic metropolis.

kinda funny how Stranger Things lore devolved in the exact same way that Backrooms/SCP lore did lmao. Initially the horror comes from normal people briefly encountering unexplained scary stuff. It's effective horror because the audience knows exactly as much as the characters. But then the writers feel the need to constantly increase the spectacle of the story so the protagonists get less relatable and the monsters become more tropey and less scary. The pipeline from "what if something scary and unexplained randomly happened to you" to "what if a bunch of scientists used their superpowers to fistfight spooky evil bad guys" is so 1:1 it's crazy

Jenny: Seattle's Pacific Science Center is auctioning off their old 1980's dinosaur animatronics to make room for an exhibit on spiders. There's a baby apatasaurus that's about 9' long, but unfortunately the others are mostly just the heads. Folks are able to bid online until the 18th. I don't know if the new spider exhibit will have animatronics. This seems like one of the most Jenny-coded things to have ever happened and I'm just passing the news along.

Idk if you're new but as you watch the backlog of Patreon videos you'll understand why it takes so long! She always gives updates on what she's working on at the end of every ramble. We have to understand she releases videos that are movies length, a lot of YouTubers post 20-30 minute videos once a month, so imagine working on a 3 hour video. That takes time, imagine the hours spent on researching, writing, recording, editing, it makes sense it takes more than a year. I'm also aware she works on multiple videos at a time, alternating between them so it's not linear. So yeah, she isn't quitting, she's working but we gotta be patient yknow

I am so appreciative of Jenny pointing out that a lot of the "AS SEEN ON TV" stuff are for disabilities. Disability aids can be so expensive, even something you wouldn't think would be expensive - if it's listed as a disability aide they can charge SO MUCH for it. It matters that so much stuff is now becoming more accessible, available and affordable. I definitely see the humor in a lot of these products when they try and market it outside of its original purpose. Plus you know the grade A acting.

I think I went to something similar recently called the "museum of illusions." My guess is a company just rents a space and sets up rooms with crazy lights, mirrors and other sort-of fun stuff. Lots and lots of photo opportunities. The staff were kind but untrained and probably paid minimum wage. It was fun, but it was also way too expensive for what it was. Probably most peope leave feeling like me: well, I guess that was fine to do once, it was kinda interesting.

Following up! Efteling was amazing! I think my favorite attraction was the fairytale forest and Laaf village. The dark rides were pretty great despite a couple being steeped in racist stereotypes lol. The new haunted ride that opened up last year, Danse Macabre, was my favorite combined thrill/dark ride in the park. It was themed so well! So immersive!

I'm very sorry to hear you feel like you can't share you opinions because of a few people taking it too personally. Your ability to articulate your opinions on media and experiences is what's so compelling about your work! I think some people really do struggle with the idea that the media you consume reflects your personal character in some way. I'm sure we all have things we hold very close and take seriously, but someone not liking a favorite movie doesn't mean they hate you too. Alas. Your section on Wicked was very funny since I too am a sleeper cell the movie being good activated. I expected the movie to be awful, especially since I'm not really an Ariana Grande fan and Glinda is very dear to me as a character, but oops I loved the movie! It's not perfect but a lot of it was well done, and it was enough to get me weeping. I went back to see it multiple times and am so grateful it's earnest. Movie musicals have had some real low lows lately so we all needed this win. 😂

I totally agree, but I do think the fact that it is set during WWII (one of the least "traditional" periods of time in terms of familial and societal structure) is the funniest part. Like they could have chosen literally any time period, including modern times, and picked one where they would have to write around their setting to fit the narrative. Plus they couldn't dress their actors in good vintage to save their lives lol.

The Apron movie reads to me like very blatant propaganda for traditional, patriarchal Christian family structures. The husband isn't drafted, so he can work in the factory instead of the wife. The wife contributes to the war effort by baking/delivering bread. The little girl is told multiple times that the most important work' is family work, represented by an apron; very on-the-nose stay-in-the-kitchen dialogue lmao. Also, they had to have the third boy because two girls just isn't gonna cut it for these traditional types who believe that country folk are inherently 'closer to God'. Idk, it was and is funny but on rewatch it seemed very insidious to me.

For me the Efteling has been a huge part of my childhood. I've been going there every year since I was like 4 years old and I really love the theme park. My dad passed away about a month ago, and I never thought I'd have money to go to Disney World as an adult. Now I do, and would like to get away from his house and my house for a few days (I live alone and dad was sadly divorced a year ago while sick) but when I went to the site for the park, it felt like I might be doing it wrong. No, she's talked about it before though. Apparently a lot of people started harassing the author to the point that the girl felt she had to make a public apology. The author also unlisted all of her books from online sellers, so if I recall correctly, Jenny doesn't feel right about posting something publicly about something that has been taken down. Obviously the author doesn't want any more negative attention. I can't remember exactly which ramble she discusses it in, but it's probably mentioned in her main channel video idea graveyard video.

Yes, it's very frustrating but I was forced to put the ramble videos on a 2nd channel marked for kids to get around people putting them in public playlists, but because the 2nd channel isn't monetized, I also don't have the power to turn ads off. (I would apply for ads and just switch them off but the 2nd channel doesn't meet the requirements for public watch hours). This hasn't been a problem until a few months ago when the ads started popping up. I've been considering workarounds, like marking the videos as containing paid promotion which disables ads, but that could compromise the For Kids channel status, or get me in trouble with youtube for using the feature incorrectly (maybe if I pay myself for promotion it counts lol). But I wish youtube would just let me opt out of ads! Or let people check a box to disable playlist sharing in the first place. :-/

„Dinosaurs“ the sitcom also always unsettled me whenever it came on. I remember the intro and music being scary, the humor bad and boring, the dad aggressively stupid, and yes! The baby was so annoying with its wheezy whiny voice (also in German), its constant evil cackling, and I didn’t get why it was so fat and pink, which made it look more like a super ugly human baby than a dino baby. Everyone was so weird-looking in general with their oversized heads, googly eyes, big toothy mouths and clunky movements. I think I even remember the episode you mentioned with the fluffy creatures, truly horrifying.

I still would like to! I even had shot part of it. I sort of became dispirited when HBO(?) released a documentary on it, so I felt beaten to the punch and thought no one would watch mine. And then right after they released a fictional film about it. But as time passed I've realized not many people saw either one, so I don't think it was as big of a deal as I worried it would be. I think if I revisit it I need to narrow the scope a lot though

Watching the Things to Do When You Can't Leave the House for Some Reason, and recognized a reference to NexJen/Great Big Toy Box - how funny! She does those extremely detailed toy descriptions because she had a few visually impaired fans mention they liked it, and felt it was a good practice. (I'm sure it's for bumping up time to get ads in for the genre on the whole, but I like the sensory/accessibility angle to her reviews.)

Dinosaurs lured me in with the puppets but it is DEEPLY unpleasant to watch. The vibes are rancid, there are way too many "ugh WOMEN" gags for my taste, a lot of the episodes center around death/mortality, and yeah the baby...not amusing or charming in any way. I had a panic attack while watching one of the episodes (completely unrelated to the show) and I'm kind of glad it happened because the negative association with the series is now so strong that i won't force myself to finish it.

Was rewatching a few older rambles including 'Ranking the Disney Princesses' and I was reminded of an opinion that I've formed re: Disney songs: IMHO, 'For the First Time in Forever' is the most Disney song. Discuss. I pick it because it has an upbeat 'Be Our Guest'-like start, but then flows into the grand 'Circle of Life'-like chorus; it's two great songs in one! And it's sung by a Disney princess who is an actual princess in a castle very like Disney castle. And the movie is ripped from Hans Christian Andersen, Disney's favorite source. Can it get more Disney?

I only joined a couple of months ago, so I’ve had great fun going through the backlog. I wouldn’t say they the older ones are worse, but the first few you can see Jenny is trying to find a style and format that works here, but she got into it pretty quickly, probably the Disney Princess video onwards she got the balance between preparation and free-form rambling right. For me my favourites are generally the ones that give more insight into her process and thinking like Guilty Pleasures, Screen Junkies, State of the Fandom, Comedy style and Reasons People hate Disney. I also really like the Peter Pandom that was just something I had no idea even existed. There are also some great video ideas here that could be repeated, such as Abandoned Video ideas (she’s bound to have a new set she’s discarded), YouTube Original Pitch and Year in Review. I think the Year in Review works particularly well, where Jenny reflects on what videos she liked, what she didn’t feel went well, and how this measures up to the public response.

Jenny has brilliant theme park analysis but I think the real problem in improving parks would be convincing management to pony up the money for any improvements/changes and being able to get certain ideas past execs who just get stuck on "eh....I like it this way." The strange, twisted grammar and spelling of fanfic seems a language of its own, and you're clearly fluent. I'm reminded of those videos of polyglots showing off their skills (e.g. "Watch me visit Philippine restaurant and shock employees when I speak perfect Tagalog!!!"). Also, watching your theme park reviews has me wondering if you've ever been hired as an expert consultant. Your immediate grasp of the "obvious" flaws and misguided decisions along with solid and easily implemented solutions makes me think you'd be worth the cost of even an eye-watering retainer.

Due to the age of the story and inactivity of the profile I had assumed that the story was written by someone when they were young, mostly forgotten about, and whenever an Amazon payment would come through she'd go "Oh, haha, that." Unfortunately, after the release of this video some of my viewers tracked down the author's socials and harassed her to the point that she felt the need to issue an apology for writing the books, and suggested that she may remove them from the marketplace. I'm not sure if she has yet, but she is uncomfortable with the attention and I'm not going to review a book that was taken off the market. I had thought it went without saying, but this is why, in subsequent videos, I've specifically asked people not to harass authors. I see a lot of people leave Amazon reviews on books as soon as I drop videos on them, clearly not having read it themselves, and I don't know what they're getting out of that. The 2nd book was much longer and more unique and I was excited to cover it, but this is why we can't have nice things." So I am new here. Been a Patreoner for only about a week. But Our Host's videos are so super chill that I tend to put them on when I am having a hard time sleeping. I decided that it was time to start showing more support. I've spent the entire weekend watching the Patreon only stuff, and I made it to the Reasons People Hate Disney video before I realized that there was a master list, and it was because this is the video where she points it out, so that is great. I like the format of her videos, how they are at least semi scripted. I don't enjoy content creators who live stream, only because I feel like I would need to be there for the livestream to support them, and I like to keep illusions of being friends with the creator to a minimum. But keep up the good work!

I can imagine the whole experience of having someone trying to track her down was pretty stressful and that she’d rather put the whole thing behind her. Frankly, I think creating new things is a better use of her time than rewatching and re-editing her old work—I say that as someone who also joined the Patreon after the videos in question were removed, so I haven’t watched them either.

Hello! I just joined, and made it up to the 'things I think are true that aren't true' video. Awesome so far! And I liked all the stuff on non Patreon youtube as well. Anyway, your mom was right about the spiders in the grapes. I was working at a summer camp that had cheap grapes kept in one of those big flip top coolers with the half pint milk containers, specifically sourced on the cheap from Guatemala. Long story short, one of my friends working there was snacking on them, felt a tickle on his lip, and 'phfffft' blew and brushed it off onto the table, and it turned out to be a black widow spider! Luckily, it had still been lethargic from the cold. Another guy there had an entomologist dad, trapped it in a jar, and brought it back a few days later all mounted up. Evil looking little bugger. I'm sure most grapes are fine though?

I'm a newer member here and it's been fun catching up with these. I see comments referring to extinct videos and every so often a Ramble even references another Ramble that's now gone, namely the Fashion and the Japan video. So, it occurred to me that maybe there's a way to share a few gems from those videos with the personal stuff edited out? In truth I just want to see the bit about the ride in Japan mentioned in the Dark Rides video, but I imagine there might be more good bits? I thought that could be a option for a new ramble, but I don't know if it'd be worth it and it may be impossible for all I know.

I have watched Jenny's Videos for a little while now, and thought, as I do enjoy them, perhaps I should give somethig back. I really wanted to say that although Jenny has specically said she is not into the video diaries, her two (especialy the Porg one) are such a joy to watch. Being stuck in lockdown for so long, and not being able to go out, or meet people has been very tough for us all, and it really made it seem like summer never happened (twice!) for me. To see just a short video with people just laughing so much over something so silly, plus being outside, the summer sunset, it really cheers me up. That and the way Jenny says pOrg.

In 1993 my family spent a year in Alabama because my dad was in the air force and attending 'air war college there' (I'm sure that was a riot...) anyway at the end the family went on a road trip across America before heading home so I was lucky enough to see both Disneyland and Disney World / Epcot. So since I wasn't monetizing them anyway I just moved them (minus a few with copyright holds I didn't want to relitigate) to a new channel with playlist embedding disabled. One of my favourites is the obscure movies ramble, it made me think of some weird little movies/tv shows I watched growing up; I had fun google searching them afterwards. The off-brand movie review is also a good one. Jenny describing the crazy goings on in Deadly Mile High Club is a ramble highlight. I remember finding and watching the other movie she recommended ("Engaged to a Psycho" I think was the name) on YouTube, and found it just as nuts as she says. All the rambles are great though, these are just the ones that sprang to mind!
