Bonus credit segment length
Added 2021-08-30 20:55:57 +0000 UTCSo we've got a new bonus credit for you all hopefully tomorrow. This one's an hour long, which led me to wonder... what length do you all prefer? We've done a lot of 30 minute ones which to me (brandon) seemed like a good length because the segments are of variable length and about scattered topics, with no subject intro, etc. But sometimes we just have a lot of extra stuff and it winds up being this long.
I can see a few ways of doing this for months where we've got extra content like this, let's see what you think is best!!
So if we've got more content than usual (specifically an hour like we've got this time), what would you prefer? Also to be clear, this next one will be an hour for sure because it's finished! So this will be for subsequent ones. All comments are welcome!

Hard agree here. I suspect some times there will be more and other times there will be less. I'd personally rather have it be less of a lift on the editor for what is supposed to be bonus content for the super fans. If it's too many minutes of mic checks and "I can't hear you yet"s cut it. But if it's the hosts we pay to support farting around on mic, then bring it on.

2021-09-01 01:32:38 +0000 UTCthat deep dive stuff is pretty much serendipitous and only happens when somebody's got a topic, BUT there is a 20 minute section on crosswords in the next one, between chris remo and mathew kumar, so... maybe that'll do it!?

2021-08-31 17:34:59 +0000 UTCIf you guys are considering the format of the bonus content, it could be worth considering doing something different. I'd love to hear you guys go deep on a single topic for 30 minutes, like you did with the Amico. I understand that this would be a different time commitment for you all but it could lead to some fun discussion.

2021-08-31 05:04:38 +0000 UTChonestly if its unstructured, an hour might be too long. i have loved the 30 minute bonus episodes because they feel really dense and packed in with Stuff. however - i can see that i'm outnumbered in this! honestly im just happy to be here. ok bye

2021-08-31 04:59:12 +0000 UTCLooking like 1 hour is the Big Winner over here! Glad I asked everybody!! I do think one episode is ever so slightly easier for esper, so we'll keep doing it that way! To me it seems like TOO MUCH OF US talking about nothing but I get that like... that's the point of this whole thing so I had better get over myself. Also I'm glad you like the episodes so far! 2021-08-31 04:37:58 +0000 UTCMore the merrier with a minimum of extra work - whatever that adds up to 30 mins 45 60 90? Surprise me.

2021-08-31 01:01:36 +0000 UTCWhatever is easiest for the creators and the editors is what i say. We already "get what we pay for", this is just gravy!
2021-08-31 00:27:41 +0000 UTCLiterally as much as you have.

2021-08-30 22:32:09 +0000 UTCThere's no real disadvantage I can see in putting out one hour-long piece. I always find myself having to listen to regular episodes in chunks anyway and any podcast app (patreon app included) is pretty good at keeping track of where I'm up to. So if this question is purely for the audience's sake then I echo most everyone here and say please make it 120 discrete 30-second episodes

2021-08-30 22:11:24 +0000 UTC1 hour is fun, but also 2 thirty minute eps is fine by me. Really I'd prefer whatever makes Esper's life easier.

2021-08-30 22:04:29 +0000 UTCGo full Tim Rogers and release a 15-hour ep every 3 years. (Actual answer: hour is fine; the more, the better!)

2021-08-30 21:38:41 +0000 UTCchaos option: four 15 minute segments (don't do this)
