We have Bryan back! It's time for a groundbreaking album that changed rap forever! Let's find out what Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were up to in the late 80's
I feel like the music tracks could stand to be half as loud as they currently are. I have a hard time hearing the discussion while the music is playing. It's cool hearing it in the background for context, but the conversation is why I tune in.

Welcome back Bryan! I always like to hear his perspective :)
It’s interesting to me, to think about how in less than a decade we went from Kurtis Blow’s “The Breaks” to harder stuff like N.W.A. and Public Enemy. Obviously there’s some checkpoints in between - Run D.M.C. for example - but things definitely evolved in the 80s! (and the Native Tongues stuff coming up around the same time as a counterpoint, of course!)
It was a rough week and this album’s energy was what I needed. Gangsta Gangsta and Express Yourself were my favorites (aside from the BIG big tracks). GG reminded me of “Waterslide” by Janelle Monae, something about the rhythm and flow, IDK.
If anyone wants to hear a much less famous but decent cover of Suspicious Minds, I’d recommend Fine Young Cannibals’ cover from the 80s. That singer has such a strange and appealing voice, IMO!
I have been WAITING for T. Rex to pop up, I’m glad we’re finally getting a taste this week!

pretty informative episode, fair review & KLB should be a regular. 'fuck the police' was used in the scariest scene from the 2019 film Us, always thought that as funny

Lmao Shawn you definitely are dyslexic, it’s “Close to the Edge” not “Close to the Eagle” haha. Great episode as always, I love the King Lord. I used to listen to this record in high school a lot. It’s a landmark record but doesn’t do too much for me now. 3/5 probably for me. Also, I’ve been listening to a lot of Yes recently because I’ve been going through all of my Dads old records and he had every Yes record just like your Dad lol.
