Mega64 Movie Club: The Big Lebowski

Today Rocco and Shawn watch The Big Lebowski for (maybe) the first time. Do they think it's worthy of being a cult classic and has the no stop quoting of this movie ruined it in anyway? We will see...

The screen behind is like young versions of Shawn and Roccos Dads looking over them from the past

LOVED this episode! Happy you guys enjoyed it as it is one of my favorite films ever. I love how much this and Tarantino’s Jackie Brown showcase really inner-city los angeles. Dialogue like mentioning the in n out in hollywood and pasadena always makes me giddy. On the topic of the plot it’s a riff on hard boiled detective movies and books and basically the plot itself is in the back burner and not important.

Shawn’s ashes could be put into a little compartment of the big vader fig

Definitely in the my Top 5 favorite movies of all time. So glad you guys enjoyed it! Also, there is a religion that spawned from this movie called "Dudeism."

The Coen brothers are truly really talented, check out Miller's crossing for more of their interesting plots and mature humor. I also really love No Country for Old Men and Raising Arizona. The latter which includes John Goodman, one of their favorite actors to use, John Turturro is another.

The Big Lebowski is like a really good album where every time you relisten to it you hear something new, I think that's part of why it is such a cult classic. A couple things to pay attention to on a rewatch: notice how much of the dude's dialogue is just him repeating things he's heard from someone else; In that vein, The Big Lebowski is a movie from 1998 set specifically in 1991, notice how much they talk about the dude being a man of his time and place and the thread of George Bush SR's bungling in the Gulf War.
