Whelp I hope we all have our psychedelics' ready because we are diving head first into Pink Floyds first record that was made on LSD. Did this blow our minds in a good or bad way? Let's watch and see...

Pair next week with movie club! Sparks are featured in and did all the music for Annette (2021) with Adam Driver. Super interesting band and movie. Can't wait!

Genuinely surprised this album made it onto this list, it's one of the most divisive Pink Floyd albums. That said, I do love it. I love the early experimental usage of the stereo image. I love any album with both a mono and stereo mix that makes such a difference. Only have two of their albums on vinyl so far, and this is one of them. Classic, but I understand everyone not really messing with it.

Didn't grow up with Pink Floyd, was never too curious, and boy howdy this was not a great introduction. Felt all of Shawn's reactions at one point or another.

I think it's typical with a lot of older bands, when you go back to their first or second albums that they can be kind of weird and different, much more out there, even for Pink Floyd. There's not many songs that really stick with you, but I agree Sean. It's definitely really interesting to see where they started and came from and how they evolved. This was a really interesting record club. I really enjoyed it!

Totally agree with this. Barrett, Waters and Gilmour basically led different bands (a little less so in the case of Waters to Gilmour, but still) and knowing that can possibly help the album go down a bit smoother for the first time if you're not familiar with this type of psychedelic stuff. Also bummed they completely snubbed Crimson, I thought Red had a good shot and ItCotCK would def be somewhere.

I think going into this album comparing it to the rest of Pink Floyd’s albums is a mistake. This was six albums and seven years before Dark Side of the Moon. It’s very much its own thing and a different sounding band. Not just the psychedelic rock aspects, but the experimental rock aspects can be hard for people to take in and understand. I know Syd was on drugs and there are a lot of weird pieces. But everything is still structured and purposefully done here. I don’t really understand the nursery rhymes comparison and I feel like you didn’t really look into the lyrics. Also worth noting That Pow R Toc H was inspired by the sounds and effects used by The Beatles on Lovely Rita. And aside from the beginning and ending theme, Interstellar Overdrive is mostly jazz inspired with improvisation throughout by the band members. I really like this album, but I enjoy a lot of weird rock music. I totally get why you or anyone wouldn't be into it. Especially knowing the stuff they would put out later. That is incredibly disappointing that Animals isn't in the Top 250, but I'm not surprised considering they snubbed King Crimson entirely. I'm really looking forward to Kimono My House! Sparks rule and that album way more up your alley!

I agree Shawn. Not my cup of tea as well, love Pink Floyd’s older stuff though!

Yes! Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time! I hope to see you guys listen to more stuff from them after this, specifically their 70's discography.

So many of Sparks’ album covers are fantastic - Propaganda and Angst in My Pants are classic covers too

Next week's album cover is 5 pieces of vinyl that's fucking rad as hell

I think I just don't really fuck with the whole "psychedelic" thing. A few songs were okay but towards the end this was getting hard to listen to. Going to add this to the "Brian Wilson's Smile" category of albums I kinda wish I never heard, because the anticipation and the story behind them is so much more enjoyable before experiencing the actual music. 💿.𝟕𝟓/𝟓

I really dug the dark and weird vibe in the first half but it did also lose me with the experimental second half. I do think some of the experimental parts, like the ending of the last song, are very cool though. I’ve always been very fascinated by the Syd Barrett stories, especially about the Wish You Were Here sessions. Didn’t hate this one but didn’t love it, 2.5/5. Next weeks album looks hype lmao

I wish I had known how freaking GOOFY this album was before I put off listening until this morning - I liked when he went ‘yippee you can’t see me!’ Bike would have been my absolute favorite though, if it didn’t have that weird breakdown and outro. I think I need to experiment with listening to this in different ways - doing banking work and riding the bus were not the places to be while listening to the album. Next week would be a great week for Johnny, maybe? I’m excited to revisit the album - Sparks is some good stuff!
