New year - new BOM. (Not really)

We hope everyone had a terrific Christmas and new year, hope you didn't get too sober...

In BOM central, we're now in editing mode for episode 39; much footage is in the can, but there is much to shoot still. We're unsure currently how exactly the next episode will take shape; there's so much we want to show that it may end up being two back-to-back episodes followed by a Howie Did It, or it may end up being one longer episode and the Howie. We'll know more in a week or so.

Thought you might like to see the final prototype version of the 52mm oil gauge. Not much Smiths remains in here - just the chrome bezel I think - the rest is all our own making. They're all now backlit with illuminated needles and we'll be able to choose from about 16,000,000 colours. Was hoping for 20 million, but came up short...

The latest 3D printing technology has helped us make parts that were going to take many days to fabricate in just a few hours - so that's awesome - and the latest 3D printing hardware has significantly improved the metal printed PCB traces. We've run a continuous 3A through the 0.4mm x 0.2mm trace with some little headroom.

It's all systems go for the next episodes - we're feeling good about it!

We've got the Jaguar C Type replica BOM Classics video coming soon - got some more B roll to shoot for that, we're planning a video visiting kit car manufacturer Great British Sportscars that'll be really interesting - they are really taking kit cars to a whole new level, Richard is planning an introduction to grasstrack racing in a 200hp+ Class 8 special and we're hoping to get a factory tour and inside information video on the best engine manufacturer you've never heard of. It'll be fascinating!

Thanks as always for support, we really, really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Nik, Richard and Ben.

It’s been well over a week. Any hint of when we might see an episode yet, or worked out how many we can look forward to?

Aaron

I was about to suggest the same thing.. that would be so cool!

Frans Wilbrink

Would be good to see a video on the autograss class 8 to see what Richard thinks of it all

Tom Halliday

More current will flow on that PCB trace with a decent bead of solder.

Thanks for the update!

CheeseCake701

Sounds like some great videos are coming our way! Cheers guys!

Bruce Gorney

It'll be done in time for Richard's kids to slap the L plates on, at this rate!

Guy Chapman, the Solutions Archaeologist

Still keeping the faith, I know it'll be worth it in the end.

Adam Stadnick

We can. Although we've got idiot lights on the dash for that. You'll see...

Bad Obsession Motorsport

It would be really sick if you could change the color in response to the gauge position, so you could tell at a glance if something is abnormal

Patrick Kennedy

So cool, can't wait to see it!

Bob R Kenyon

Yep, looks great, looking forward to the next episode 👍

Mike Watkins

What’s with the green-lit photo? If you had made it yellow you’d have all the BOM colours 😉😜👍

David Carson

Looks amazing, but everything you guys do is amazing.

Ron Walsh

GET ON WITH IT 😜

Message to Nic -

Gordon Bell

Brilliant! Cannot wait to see the next installment

Andy Middleton

I apologise. It's just that I saw something like that on the racing MG in Richard Hammonds workshop and I thought "well that's a good idea" so I thought I'd just sort of mention it. Sorry. I won't do it again.

Martin Dix

Dammit, don't give Nik any more ideas. He might just scrap the whole thing and start fresh

J Gibbon @ VES

Good point. Well made.

Martin Dix

Why would you suggest something so deliciously enticing. They’ll be redoing all the pcb now to facilitate it and we will be waiting 9 extra months for the episode!

William Durrant

Yes! I've been missing Howie, looking forward to hearing how he helped you lot out ;-)

Matthew Wilson

It’s incredible to see where you folks have gone with this. From shenanigans with an angle grinder to utilizing 3d printing, it’s been a real pleasure to see not only Binky get closer to the finish line, but to see how new technology influences your processes. Can’t wait to see more!

Hiroshi Robertson

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the upcoming episode(s). My vote is for more detail, even if it means splitting it up into multiple releases. Y'all never disappoint with the overkill and I am here for it.

Jacob Granger

Sweet!

Louis

Nice, but can you make it change colour depending on the pressure?

Martin Dix
