As Patrons we wanted to give you a heads up about the new upcoming Gamma World Island content. This will be the largest content introduction we have ever done. We have worked through Gamma from the ground up, addressing issues from years past and coming up with innovative solutions, balance, and content to make a better Gamma for everyone!
Gamma will be a world unto its own, featuring 40 new islands built from scratch each with unique properties as provided by a new Gamma Tier System. Why the Tiered islands? The rationale behind this is very simple. Each tier will have its own benefits and tradeoffs in terms of material, tech level support and map placement. We hope that this will encourage different players/Corporations to seek different islands appropriate to their needs and ability.
In addition, each Tier level also impacts on the additional rules of that island, the available resources as well as the content it will feature. Even though a lower tier level will restrict the Tech level of base usable on the island, you can correspondingly access higher tier PVE content, resources, and rewards. The T0 islands are unclaimable (non-buildable) and therefore will be the most resource-rich islands. They will feature the best PVE and unique resources on the Gamma world. This includes bosses, large and small, and lucrative NPC spawns.
In another new feature, NPCs will also now be able to anchor their own bases! These NPC bases can grow over time if left unchecked, so you better kill them early or you might be in trouble. T3 islands will allow you to have the best facilities, defenses, and unique capabilities over other tiers, but they will also require the most effort to live on and are the furthest islands from the entry points. T2 islands offer more favorable locations, more local resources, but not as much as T1. T1s are the most Colixium rich and the closest to entrance teleports and T0 islands offering logistical advantages but not the best base technology.
We will also be introducing ‘Staging Bases’, a unique purchasable base that can only be anchored in red zones and automatically despawns after a certain period of time. They do not count towards the same total terminal limits of the island or corp, and can not be used to build other structures. They are simply a place from which to stage other gamma operations, whether that’s a place to begin your first colonization effort, or to siege another island from. Because of this feature, terminal spam is no longer a factor in a defensive meta as it was in the old Gamma. There is also now a limit of 2 terminal bases per island, so the bar for “locking down” an island can be more accessible to corps of all levels.
Gamma will rollout to the Live server in a series of phases to accommodate other major events like the Reddit Spotlight among other things. The following will be happening in the next weeks starting on 10/24.
Phase One will introduce the islands and the ‘Gamma Island Naming Event’ Islands will not be accessible, but will be visible on the map for around a week. With the ‘Naming Event’ we want to give industrious players and Corporations that have invested the time into the game, for the appropriate amount of nic, a chance to leave their own creative mark on the Perpetuum world. More details on the Naming Event will be posted to the Discord and in-game News.
Phase Two will unlock the island teleports to players to begin to explore and engage with the PVE content on the islands.
Phase Three will unlock the Gamma Structures themselves and at this time all the items and research will become available for players.
As you can appreciate, a lot of thought and effort has been devoted to Gamma and its total rebalancing, we hope this will wet your appetite. Your Kingdom awaits.
