Unfortunately our scout was eventually found and dispatched by the Nian patrols as soon as the fog lifted. Our only option for further reconnaissance was to wait until nightfall.
The weather cleared revealing the glow of Nia's rings in the night sky. The alien planet's rings cast enough reflected light to show more structures behind the initial Turret line - a lot more. Each flashing and crackling with energy, each unique in shape and, we assume, purpose. A large central structure could be seen atop the massive complex ringed with even more Turrets.
It was clear to our squad leader the Syndicate downplayed the threat profile of this new island by a considerable factor. The hardware we commissioned for the job could not approach within the Turret line without being lit up. Nor did we have the firepower on hand to scratch these emplacements. The resistance here makes the conquest of Hershfield look like a walk through a field of Heliotropis.
"Its just a scouting assignment" They said.
"It'll be easy.." They said with the sort of empty assurance common of mid-level Syndicate corpies too busy accumulating wealth to know or care about the realities on Nia.
At least we will have something to report, even if we still don't know what the Nians are really up to. We do know the Syndicate will have to hire a lot more Agents to pull this one off..
