HEXROLL 2E - what would you like to see next?
Added 2023-12-20 19:37:31 +0000 UTCGreetings Brave Adventurers
17 months ago I asked you to help me plan hexroll next. Three of these projects are now a big part of hexroll.app.
Today I'm asking you to help me again:
What do you want to see added to 2E next?
Solo gameplay
HEXROLL will be have full fog-of-war turned on by-default. Hex crawling and dungeon crawling will assume a single player. Any secrets embedded in the content will be hidden by-default too.
More sandbox content
The sandbox could get more content such as a calendar with events, festivities and rituals; more hex features such as resources or plants; more settlement features such as guilds with more quests; a full table-of-contents panel and a gazetteer for each realm.
5E monster stats, NPCs and dice rules
HEXROLL will generate a fully 5E compatible sandbox. All existing set of NPC classes and monsters will be converted to be 5e compatible. Additional 5e classes could be added and the dice rules (such as saving throws) will be adapted as well.
Additional mapping tools
The current hex map editing tools will be extended, while still retaining the generator-not-editor nature of hexroll. Dungeons and cave maps will be improved - possibly adding multi-level dungeons? Lair maps could be added as well.
Sandbox model customization
The generator will allow you to change or replace the built-in model (SCROLL) files in your sandbox. You'll be able to change the various random tables used to roll things, add more entity classes and truly create your own world. You'll also be able to mess things up if you get things wrong ;)
West Marches mode
HEXROLL will have dedicated support and tools for sharing the same sandbox with multiple parties. Perhaps a per-party campaign tracker and a per-party persistent VTT state.
Your feedback will help me sequence my work better. I will probably still work on several things concurrently but I'll know which of the six areas I should focus on more.
With that, I wish you a very Happy Christmas and Holiday Season; and a Happy New Year.
Enjoy the crawl!

Comments
West Marches will allow sharing the same sandbox with multiple parties and VTT already allows sharing the hex map and dungeon maps with your players, using tokens etc - with some more cool VTT features coming.

2024-01-25 02:16:01 +0000 UTCI'm not seeing the titles of any of the voting options. I hope I voted for 'more sandbox'. All of those things sound cool, but do the thing you're doing better first. I want more quests and more variety to everything as the priority. Solo game play is cool, but a little niche I think. A great niche for this product to serve, though I'd love to see 5e stat blocks on here, but I have them already on another app. A quicker easier temp fix would be a toggle to remove stat blocks entirely. Or, or, hear me out. Sell your RPG as the default. Synergize. I don't really understand how mapping tools and model customization really works, so...I dunno. West marches sounds like a really cool niche for this product, but like solo, it's super serving. Do it, but after. My biggest thing is, there's too much repetition in my table of contents. I'd really like to see the naming pools get 10x larger. There's 2 libertos and 3 adelheides in every seed i make. Fun thought, if possible. Could you trigger the "of (place name)" portion of NPC names to coincide with the seed's village and region names? It's awkward that the place he's from doesn't exist.
