Early Access x2: Operation Varsity and C-46 Commando

Here they are, two new videos as promised!
Operation Varsity - Perfectly Planned but Completely Unnecessary?
In the first video, I give an overview of Operation Varsity. I talk about how previous experience in airborne operations was taken on board to improve this attack, what actually happened as the Allied transporters reached the drop zone, and how the casualties in the end set of a debate whether this operation was actually required. Yes, I packed all of that into one sentence - my German side is showing.

In Defense of a Deathtrap: C-46 Commando
After that, why not treat yourself to some more controversy?! The C-46 Commando was pushed into Operation Varsity with high hopes, only to suffer horrendous casualties. I talk a little bit more about the plane, its flaws but also why it was so integral to the planning!

Hope you enjoy! Looking forward to your feedback,
Chris
Ah I misunderstood. Thank you very much for sharing them, word of mouth like that is incredibly helpful!

I wonder if the limitations to the range of the C-46 (compared to C-47) were part of the reason for that. Self-sealing fuel tanks usually cut into volume, thus decreasing capacity

The final useless act in the military’s fascination with airborne assaults. Airborne never fulfilled its alluring promise of lightning strikes behind enemy lines.

Hi Christoph. As usual i posted the link on my Facebook page. One of my friend's father was in the Canadian parachute unit. Here's what he wrote:
It's easy in hindsight, 77 years later, to criticize but at the time it was seen as a very successful operation.
And he doesn't even mention the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, which is unforgivable. 😉
My dad was in that battle, said it was the worst jump he'd ever done. It was a daylight jump, and they came in low and slow, to minimize hang time. The aircraft he was in was hit by flak and was in flames when he jumped. The defenders in their drop zone were Germain airborne, and the fighting was furious.

To produce an airplane that would be used in combat without self-sealing tanks at that stage of the war, seems ridiculous. Great videos though 👍
