Early Access - In Defense of the Brewster Buffalo

Hey,

First off, a massive thank you to those that have already supported my new book over at http://stukabook.com. More than 380 backers have helped so far and even pushed it into the next stretch goal, which is amazing - a bonus episode going live today can be found here: https://youtu.be/BIqKK9BBGF0

Second, here is your early access to the next episode. This one features the Brewster Buffalo, exploring the history of this bird and explaining why it perhaps does not deserve its reputation. Let me know what you thought of this episode and whether you have any more suggestions for this 'In Defense of....' series.

"I mean look at it again and tell me you don't love this aircraft." I mean I kind of do. I have flown the Finnish B-239 export model in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 more than any other plane in that game. I really like it.

Who says I stopped it ;)

Military Aviation History

Thanks Michael, I would have loved to talk more about the US experience as well but it was already tough to cut it down this much. So many things to say about this bird.

I should add that I really enjoyed the episode

In the US the reputation of the Buffalo probably came from the Battle of Midway where a whole squadron was destroyed by Zeros.

Amongst your best…excellent

The presentation was a little quirkier than usual, but it was very entertaining. The details presented are eye opening in understanding the Buffalo. It's very interesting to provide context to both Allied failures in the DEI and the Finnish successes. Probably the best in the series so far.

My vote for the worst plane would have been the Breda Ba.88 Lince, but it is not well known. Since you mentioned it, my first introduction to the P-39 / P-400 was Martin Caiden's Ragged Rugged Warriors. His major complaint with the P-400 was the British oxygen system installed, giving a practical ceiling of 13000 feet. He noted that it found its niche as a ground attack aircraft.

Oooh this will be interesting. I am also really glad you mentioned the book because I didn't know the Indiegogo campaign had started. I can't back it right now, but I'll back it in just over a week when I have money to spend again.
