Shadow Systems DR920

Comments

I have a Shadow Systems XR920 Elite and can attest to the spotty reliability, specifically with a 507C optic installed. I was having a stovepipe malfunction every 15-20 rounds with every type of ammo I tried but no issues without the optic. I found my gun was improperly sprung from the factory and the optic was just enough weight to induce a malfunction. To Shadow System's credit, they mention this on their website and sell different weight springs but I found replacing the factory recoil spring with a factory Glock 19 gen4 spring (marked 043) completely fixed the issue. Just in case anyone else might be having some cycling issues with their Shadow Systems handgun. The gun now runs perfect and has become one of my more commonly used firearms.

That wonky Gen 3 ejection pattern.....🤮

I have a CR920P. With the OEM recoil assembly, spring and rod, I had a massive failure rate. In 250 round in one session I had over 30 malfunctions. The recoil spring is way too heavy. I contacted Shadow Systems and they sent me a new spring. Same spring. Insanely heavy. I pulled the spring out and it is one of the dual spring setups, and the two springs were grinding against each other. Luckily for me, I had ordered a Glock 43 guide rod and spring. The CR920P is a clone of the 43. Since then a friend of mine that shot it had one malfunction, and I have had zero. It runs and feels so much better with the Glock 43 recoil assembly. I can’t remember exactly how many rounds I’ve put through it since the change, but it’s around 200. So if you plan on getting one, change the stupid spring.

Any chance of a cr920p review in the future?

Glad to get your perspective on this one. Ive had Shadow Systems pistols for the past 3 or so years; 5 pistols, over 4k rounds fired in total, and zero issues that weren’t ammo or magazine related. Ive had 3 MR920s, a CR920, and a DR920, and I am a huge fan. The MR920 is my favorite carry gun at the moment, and Ive shot some minor competitions with the DR920. They may be kinda boring to me at this point, but I trust them with my life. And it helps that I dig the way they look. Shadow Systems may not be for everyone, but its easily one of my favorite pistol manufactures.
