Bazarabs

Introduction-

One of the three founding members of the federation, the Bazarabs are an ancient and mysterious people. Known far and wide for their shape shifting prowess, not to mention their voracious reputations, what was once the galactic boogie man is now a common sight for many federation citizens. Once a series of spacefaring clans, the Bazarabs have embraced their home with full gusto.

Physiology-

Bazarabs are still something of a biological mystery, even amongst the most well versed scientists of the Federation. After extensive years of study, the Bazarabs shapeshifting is only only understood at base levels. Most are usually unaware of the Bazarabs true form, a more monstrous version of the common “resting” form. It is Scientifically proven that their shapeshifting relies on magnetic fields produced by the Bazarab in communication with iron rich organelles in non-organ cells, but little beyond that has been proven. This unusual biological ability requires vast consumption of food, leading to the Bazarabs having a large carnivorous diet, usually consuming ⅓ of their weight daily. In order to sustain this, Bazarabs have heightened senses, allowing for the easy tracking of prey. It is unknown what the origin of this particular ecological niche is, leading to speculation that Bazarabs are a tailored race, but once again this is speculation.

History-

The Bazarab homeworld has been lost to the ages. For countless eons the various Bazarab clans had been traveling throughout the galaxy, considered a blight by most major empires. Little is known of these travels, but most races treated the Bazarab as vagabonds at best or monsters at worse. Most of recorded history of this unique people occurs after they encountered the Ianauri. After an uneasy alliance was formed between the two, the Ianauri found that this strange race had much more to offer the universe than most would suspect, and offered a more permanent alliance. As the Ianauri had little to no living space left on their homeworld, they created a three way treaty with the Varanids, giving the Bazarabs the largest continent of Varan and a permanent home for a wayward people.

Culture-

Most of the Bazarab culture is a holdover of their nomadic tribal days. All Bazarabs hold loyalty to anywhere from one to five clans, depending on lineage. These clans are identified by a glyph in the old Bazarab alphabet, usually with extra accents or symbols to differentiate subclan. Due to the generations of spaceborn life, Bazarabs prefer darker, enclosed spaces, similar to their spaceships. In order to survive on long voyages with minimal supplies or room for error, Bazarabs are a frugal and efficient people. The clan structures still in place encourage obedience and micromanaging from those in leadership positions. This has bred a culture with a great proficiency for middle management positions. A characteristic of note is the strong patriotism felt by Bazarabs toward the Federation. Having a racial memory of times when they were alone and homeless, the Bazarabs value their current lot in life greatly.

Federation-

Bazarabs gravitate towards not central location in the structure of the Federation, instead petering out in various branches. Their culture’s command chains make shifting into position a breeze, often ending up as troubleshooters in various fields. Due to their shapeshifting, many end up as spies or security officers. It is a common test in many gangs to check for Bazarab infiltrators with a high power magnet. Others still become administrators of cultural institutions, ensuring newcomers to the Federation see them as respectable stewards, and not the monsters myths cast them as. The pride many Bazarabs feel amount the Federation yields many becoming public servants. Knowing first hand the beneficial nature of the Federation, many try and show the galaxy the wonders of unity.
