Lady Reiko claimed Diane as her familiar, and then collared her to seal the bond. For all practical purposes, she is now the kunoichi’s pet! Yet the relationship is deeper than mere ownership. Diane has discovered that there is now some sort of intrinsic connection between her and the ninja girl; not only is she able to sense Reiko’s presence, but she seems to be compelled to obey her commands. Only time will tell whether Diane will be able to resist the compulsion to obey.
In the meantime, Fanglord has reported the city guard of Lyonne is preparing to storm the Dancing Duchess. One of the citizens who fled the premises apparently reported the battle taking place within! As a creature of the night, Diane would be slaughtered on sight by the soldiers the moment she exits the building. Fortunately, Keres are natural shapeshifters; Reiko ordered her pet to adopt a less conspicuous form before they leave the inn.
However, Diane has no experience using her shapeshifting ability. As she unleashes the transformative power within her, she might find herself compelled to obey Reiko’s command more literally than she would prefer…
