I do IT support at a university and to this day, students are still stealing the $2 dell mice. A smaller number of students are bringing in their own mice and then just leaving them there.

America installed a pro-west, anti-russian government in Ukraine after the previous one was overthrown in 2014, and so this war was pretty much inevitable. A lot of the people responsible for America's crimes in Iraq were responsible for trying to turn Ukraine into an anti-Russia fortress, thinking they were going to do Afghanistan 2 to Russia. Also, Jimmy Carter's SecDef still has huge influence in DC long after his death and he has maintained that Russia needs to be broken up into smaller political entities, which obviously is not an attractive idea to the Russian State, which was really spooked by the implications of the Serb/Kosovo war in the 90s for that reason. As far as they were concerned, NATO was winking in their direction going "see this? This is gonna be you in 20 years." So yeah, on one level there's just the same stupid land dispute as so many other places around the world, but on another level, this is about America trying to keep its #1 status, which requires us destabilizing 'regional powers' to prevent any barriers to America's ability to exert power. It's a recipe for eternal war, basically, but nothing lasts forever. Oh yeah, and in case anyone decides I'm a Russia simp, I just see Ukraine as a victim of this stupid geopolitical chess game that only America wants to play.

2023-10-03 01:46:34 +0000 UTCWent on a fishing trip in Canada this year and it was crazy to see the poverty northern Manitoba in the areas near reservations. It was one of those rich white people trips that I just happened to get invited along for. Definitely felt a little exploitative but at the same time it's probably the safest and best paying work the native guys way up there can get. One leg of travel was a chartered flight up to this little town where the road northward ends, and it was reminiscent of how you'd imagine a dying Appalachian coal town would look. Barely an intact window in the whole place and no safe drinking water. I'm sure the situation is exacerbated by how difficult it is to transport materials up there, but it was just crazy to see those conditions up close. Surely it's even worse on the actual reservations. Of course, any infrastructure around seemed to exist only to enable whatever industry was still in the area.

The first game in the series was remastered as Yakuza Kiwami, another great game to start with... & playing with updated graphics is nice.
