Level 2 Spells
Added 2024-05-12 18:25:42 +0000 UTCEmrys isn’t level 4 yet, but he’s likely to hit that level at the same time as a lot of other stuff happening. As such, I’m asking now: What will be his first level 2 spell.
Stone Discus: And then I threw a rock at him. Launch a magical stone disk at a target. It does 4d6 damage, and will eventually (at high level) scale to launch more disks that can bypass DR and Hardness. Incidentally, this is the same amount of damage done by a spell-slot empowered frost blast.
Unshakable Chill: Whatever the ambient temperature, the target instead experiences severe cold for 10 minutes per level. Severe cold does 1d6 nonlethal cold damage every 10 minutes. Offensive uses are negligible
Shifted Steps: Make all sounds and vibrations from one target sound as if they are coming from somewhere else. This is complete enough to completely fool sound based senses like echolocation and tremorsense.
Telekinetic Strikes: for 1 minute per level, all of one creatures attacks with natural weapons (including unarmed strikes) deal 1d4 extra force damage from a sheath of disruptive telekinetic energy.
Arcane Disruption: if the target fails a will save, they will be unable to use arcane or innate magic for one round per level.
Fungal Blisters: Give yourself several disgusting blisters which explode if you are harmed, damaging anyone around you. Can only be cast on Emrys himself, but it can do fantastic damage to whoever knocks him out.
Suppress Charms and Compulsions: Can be used as either a preemptive buff lasting 10 minutes per level, giving +4 to saves vs most mind affecting magic, or as a concentration effect to fully suppress such effects for up to one round per level.
Create Treasure Map: use a corpse to create a map leading to the most valuable things that the target is aware of within an area that you specify. The accuracy of the map and the things highlighted reflect the corpse’s knowledge and values. 100 gp material cost.
Comments
For sure. Treasure map is definitely an expensive utility option, but with appropriate targets Emrys could spend money to make money. NGL, I am a little amused at how niche or bad all the spells are for this batch. Despite that, I can think of use cases for all of them.
