Species
Added 2023-06-04 06:00:02 +0000 UTCPathfinder has many, MANY races but let’s stick with the ones that are good at being sorcerers, eh?
Humans: the most basic, yet excellent, of all species. They can be good at literally anything and have no weaknesses, but they have no abilities that are unique to them.
Tiefling: Specifically Rakshasa Spawn. The most thematically linked to our class, has special fiendish magic, and has good stats for a charismatic thief. Poor impulse control and mental defenses.
Kitsune- shapeshifting fox people, agile tricksters, the very best mental magic specialists. Physical strength leaves much to be desired.
Drow: not universally evil, but the subterranean dark elves have a justifiably bad reputation. Thankfully this is the pirate-run confederacy of the Shackles and most people don’t care. Can be excellent summoners or mind mages and have several innate magical abilities. They will need them, because they are notoriously fragile.
Gnomes: The Pinnacle of Short King Technology. These small fey have a biological need for new and exciting experiences, and have a wide selection of natural spells. They are unusually sturdy, but are about 3’6” on average and don’t have much muscle on their frames.
Gillmen: Fully amphibious, in fact they need to get wet at least once a day or they start to dry out and can even potentially die. This would be a much bigger problem if we weren’t on a boat. Other than that, they are sexy, tough, and can learn an extra spell every time they level up. Slight difficulty with paying attention, though.
Comments
Generally speaking, 1-2 per level plus a bonus spell from his bloodline (in Emrys’s case this is mostly going to be tricky/manipulative spells) at every odd level after 1. He will also have the opportunity to learn bonus spells known as quest rewards. Gillman learns one extra spell per level which has to be below the highest level spell you can cast. So gillmen Emrys would end up learning the majority of remotely useful cantrips over the first few levels.
