Added 2025-05-08 14:26:30 +0000 UTCclick on a bed to see the interaction that lets your sim pick a book from their inventory and read it in bed.
base game compatible
requires the xml injectorupd. oct 8, 2025: fixed the studying buff showing up for non-university books, removed the action from bunk beds, and added the ability to read vampire lore books in bed for skill gain.
upd. jun 4, 2025: now works with the add-on that lets you change animation type for each sim individually.
upd. may 14, 2025: flowers won’t have the "read in bed" option anymore 🤪
single bed
child to elder
on a single bed, sims (teen to elder) will see two options:
1. read in bed (with covers)
2. read in bed (without covers)
child sims will only get the "read in bed (with covers)" interaction.
double bed
teen to elder
on a double bed, sims will see one interaction: "read in bed"
the animation depends on which side of the bed you click:
left side → with covers
right side → without covers
i added a tooltip in-game to make it easier.
the pose for "read in bed (with covers)" is the same for all sims.
the pose for "read in bed (without covers)" is different for masculine and feminine frames.
benefits:
increases fun need.
skill books will boost the related skill. any level book can be read in bed and still grant skill gain.
if your sim has a "finish a book" want or aspiration goal, this interaction will fulfill it.
children gain creativity when reading fiction books. when reading skill books, they build mental skill — and if the book teaches a skill children can learn, that skill will increase too.
a moodlet will appear while reading in bed:
sims enrolled in university can also read textbooks in bed — they'll get a notification confirming their academic progress is improving:
known issues:
1. please let the sim finish reading before saving or entering cas. otherwise, when you load the game again, they may level up every skill at once, which causes a bunch of notifications :) it's not game-breaking, but a little messy.
2. the animation looks better with thicker books.
3. emotional books won’t give your sims a specific emotion.

2025-08-31 21:00:45 +0000 UTCHeyyy 🧡 I LOOOOOOVE your animations sooooo much and haven’t had any problems so far. But with the override, my “reading with cover” animation doesn’t have a blanket. I only see my legs – but only when I select that option. And my toddler in the base game also has no blanket when being tucked in. The blanket only suddenly spawns once they’re asleep. Hope you can help :( But other than that, I’m obsessed with your animations, honestly. They change the gameplay experience sooo much, and your latest update with the improved eating behavior is just amazing!!! 🧡🧡🧡

2025-06-05 10:05:09 +0000 UTChi! thank you so much for letting me know. unfortunately, it looks like my mod isn’t compatible with lothario’s mod. usually, when a skill is learned, the interaction code includes just that one skill — and i believe that’s how the auto preference system detects it. but in my case, reading in bed is a single interaction that includes many skills in the code. skill gain only happens if the sim reads a book with a specific tag, but technically, all those skills are still listed. sadly, that’s the only way i could make skill gain work for this mod :( i hope that explanation makes sense. i’m really sorry the mods aren’t compatible!

It works great but I do have an odd issue when playing with automatic preference mod. My sim acquired so many preferences in a very short time while reading on bed. I also have a lot of other mods so idk for sure what happened. Appreciate any help and I will try to provide logs and stuff if you need it.
