Future Klok Patreon Posts Roadmap!
Added 2021-01-31 11:18:44 +0000 UTCHey guys! It's been a while.
Previously, I wrote a post in a similar vein to this one where I outlined the upcoming posts I wanted to write for my Patreon. Today's post is basically the same thing, but I'll be listing even more ideas I plan to write about in the future.
One of my initial ideas for doing a two-week cycling interval for Cryopod and TLP was that, at the end of every two weeks, when I wrote a Patreon blog post, the blog post would specifically be about TLP or Cryopod, or the Cryoverse as a whole. However, that structure is a bit rigid, so I'll be changing it up.
Instead, I'm going to write about subjects that I enjoy, with a particular emphasis on my process as a writer, what I've learned over the past four (five?) years, and so on. I have learned a lot over the years, and I think writing about said learned experiences can assist others in improving their craft while also showing my readers my thought processes. When you guys read my future work, you can say, "Oh, so he's applying that thing he mentioned in one of his posts."
So, without further ado, here are a bunch of ideas I've come up with.
......................................................................................
First off, one big idea that's been floating around in my head involves book reviews. Or movie reviews. Or game reviews! But, what all of them share in common is that I specifically want to speak about their stories.
Story Reviews! I would take a popular, or even an unpopular story from some medium, and explain the faults and failings I didn't like, while also explaining what I did like. Finally, as a way to exercise my grey matter, I would write about what I might change if I had creative control of the story. This would also be a great way for me to introduce niche or lesser-known stories my readers my really enjoy!
Rewriting Star Wars! I don't just mean the Disney Trilogy (though especially the DT, yes) but all of the SW movies as a whole. George Lucas wrote a fantastic series, but he made a lot of fuckups along the way, fuckups which didn't have to be nearly so bad. I actually would love to literally rewrite the entirety of star wars from the beginning, but these posts would focus more on 'general improvements' I'd make to each movie individually. Expect me to fill in extended universe info to also improve the process.
Rewriting Legend of Korra! I loved Avatar TLA. I consider it to be a perfect series. Korra, not so much. Flaws everywhere, even on a fundamental level. I have tons of ways this series could have been better, so jotting them down for my readers could prove fun and educational.
Can Cryopod Become a Physical Book Series? As per questions I've received on many occasions, I'd like to write a post addressing Cryopod becoming a physical media, as well as the perceptions people have toward web-serials. This won't be a long post, but it will be important. (Complete!)
Using "And Therefore" In My Writing. One of the most challenging things I've had to learn to do as an author is also coincidentally one of the things countless other authors never learn at all. Having read many books, the principle of using "And Therefore" to link events together, instead of, "But Also" has wildly changed my writing. I will write this post some point after the conclusion of the Stormbringer War to show how this writing style turns 'random' important events into cause and effect instead.
Women in the Cryoverse! I'm far from considering myself a feminist or whatever, but in the end, I'm a very liberal person with liberal viewpoints. I like reading stories with diverse and interesting casts. I'd like to write a post in the near future focusing on the decisions I made to make my female characters fun to read, exciting, and core parts of the plot. One big issue Cryopod has, for me as a writer, is that it largely uses historical figures from mythology and history. As such, there are not a lot of women I can pull from, since most of the well-known historical figures are all men. That doesn't mean I couldn't get creative!
Merging Divergent Mythologies Together! The Cryoverse is a universe where demons, gods, angels, humans, monsters, aliens, death-robots, and all kinds of other crazy things come together in a pretty well-put-together package, if I don't say so myself. But how did I pull this off? This post would focus on the steps I take for each new character, how I merge them into the existing Cryoverse, and the methods I use to try and maintain their original lore if and when possible.
How I Wrote TLP! This post is one I can't write for a while, but essentially, I want to write a series of posts, all focused on TLP, my writing process, the initial steps I needed to make the story come to life, and how it shaped the Cryoverse as a whole. I can only start this post (or series of posts, which is more likely) once I finish TLP. I'll include lots of reference materials I used to write the story, as well as hint at my plans for the prequels and sequels for TLP.
How I Write Cryopod! Unlike TLP, Cryopod is going to take a long time to finish. The story continues to expand in scope, allowing me more side-stories I can write once I finish it. I would like to start this series relatively soon, but it's a bit tricky because writing about my thoughts on, say, Book 1 or 2 or 3... well, I might accidentally spoil important reveals down the line, and that's never something I want to do. My reveals are important to me, after all!
Why I Love Isekais! Cryopod is an Isekai, TLP is an Isekai, and most of the other stories I plan to write also qualify as Isekais. But why do I gravitate toward this style of storytelling? Isekais tend to have a reputation for being lazily written, but does that have to be the case? Of course not. In the future, if and when I write this post, I hope to intrigue people with my love for and knowledge of Isekais!
Rewriting the Chosen One. I really can't stand Chosen One narratives, which is why, in the future, I plan to explain why I love using Chosen One narratives, only to subvert them. Spoilers for Cryopod, beware...
Cryopod Refresh's Improvements Over Classic! This is a big post, one I've been debating for a long while. It will probably become a series in its own right, as I detail all of the huge changes I made during the transition from Cryopod Classic to Refresh. Not only did I overhaul characters, but also places, story moments, plot, worldbuilding, power systems and mechanics, and many other similar things.
Continuing from the previous post, here are a couple of ideas I didn't do yet, so I'll add them to this post, rapid-fire:
Are Sci-fi and Fantasy really that different? A lot of people think Sci-Fi and Fantasy are very different genres. Personally, I disagree. I am also really looking forward to writing this blog post, because as I'm sure my prolific readers have noticed, when I write a story, the sci-fi and fantasy tend to mesh together really well. But how do I pull it off? Only people who read this post, or who have otherwise giga-chad brains, will know!
Constraints lead to Creativity, but Freedom leads to better Worldbuilding. This post is a bit more nebulous. I've had many instances when writing Cryopod where I had too much freedom with what was coming next, and it stifled me, making me very hesitant about what path to take. Similarly, there have been times where I limited my world by complete accident, and thus stifled a big possibility for enhancing the story. One such example was when I linked demonic horn sizes to their power levels. It's fine, but I could have made demon horns also represent their personalities and that may have worked out better for the story.
......................................................................................
I have tons of ideas for future Patreon posts. I'm still debating formats, the amount of time/energy I want to put into them, and so on. If my readers have any suggestions, I'll take them in stride!
That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
