Overall Game Status Update for July 2023
Added 2023-07-13 21:00:04 +0000 UTCThe primary content for the game is done! I'm so excited. I never thought I'd actually reach this point, haha. The game development started in Feb 2022, so it's been over a year!
Fun news: The game is now as of build 0.4.4.7 over 40 hours of content (given a reading speed of 200wpm, which is the low-end of average)! My original goal was 30, so YAY!
So............. now what?! Is it done?!
Not quite! There's still the ending! Remember Lux and Quispe and their mystery? The "Particles" world? The entire reason poor Monika is in some kind of nightmare (no not literally, it's not all a dream, I promise!).
Yeah, that stuff that everyone's probably forgotten at this point. :)
Next up is writing the ending! I think it's going to be exciting. I have the ideas, but the truth is I have no idea how much content it is. I have no solid outline for it yet. I'll keep you updated as I figure it out.
The ending is going to be big. It's a lot more than just writing the final Particles chapter. :)
One of my artists is working on new assets for the ending content, currently. (Being vague for no spoilers.) They were delayed for personal reasons, but it should be ready in time for the programming to start. I'm not sure if there will be more, TBD.
I'm still also undecided how much (if any) content on the ending I will make available before release. I'm currently thinking it'll be a small portion of the new content, but TBD. I'll keep everyone updated as I figure this out, too.
Game Pricing Info Updates:
The target release is currently end of September. There will be more details on getting the keys as we get closer.
Patreon members who have paid at least $20 USD by release date will get a game key of their platform of choice (Steam or Itch), as promised.
On release, I've decided that I am going to increase the STORE price to $30 USD due to the amount of content (>40 hours) and the asset costs that I underestimated.
The game will NOT go on sale for at least 1 year. There will be no release day sale either.
So there's a lot of incentive for you guys to hit that $20 USD if you haven't! :) To be fully transparent, this does also benefit me because Patreon takes the smallest cut of all 3 options.
If you're not going to hit it by September, one option is you can temporarily increase your membership tier. The $6 tier will return post-release. (New members will not get access to the base game after release.)
To those legacy members on older tiers that are no longer available, your options aren't returning. I'm not going to force you to change your tier. Legacy members may contact me directly to work something out through Paypal or other platforms.
Updated: The Great Release To Do List (TM):
- Some planning & editing over the Particles existing chapters
- Write, Edit, Program the last Particles chapter
- Write, Edit, Program the big finale conclusion with [[redacted]]
- Maybe adding in some [[redacted]] scenes here and there and create [[redacted]] meta images.
- Polish pass over all side content / new stuff.
- Do some programming around unlocks for all the side content/new stuff (I've been just making everything unlock by default for the convenience of the Patreon members)
- More Steam achievements
- Some various GUI improvements
- Research into Steam cloud storage (I have no idea how this works!)
- Research into prepping for the technicalities of doing DLC content in the future (I may have to change how I'm structuring my worlds, not sure yet.)
- Various little tweaks on messaging/info/tutorial type stuff.
- (New) A few tweaks for some small changes in Julian's sprite
- Probably some improvements on the meta gallery images.
- Stuff I'm probably forgetting about????? -_-;;;;
- Testing!
- Research, plan, and organize Patreon key stuff
- Release?!?!?!?!
