Patron-exclusive: Reservoir Dogs

The team shares their thoughts on the winner of the vote for "Movies that Launched a Career"

It’s okay to acknowledge QT is a good writer guys. I can feel how it hard it is for y’all lol.

I wanted to add a comment about some of the larger ideas in Reservoir Dogs, which the team begrudgingly admitted was a very well done film. I think one think the team missed is the importance of trust and deception in the film. The characters don’t trust each other which is why they use monikers and in the opening only connect on a superficial level (hence their conversation around pop culture stuff). Orange is deceiving everyone bc he’s an undercover cop, Orange and White begin to trust one another bc they connect on a human level since orange is dying. Even Joe and Nice Guy Eddie have a trusting relationship with Blonde, who can’t be trusted to do the job right (and without malice). I don’t think trust is a theme because I don’t think Tarantino has anything to really say about trust at the end, but it’s certainly a motif that crops up a lot in the film (or so I find). Anyway, cheers.

Oooo, I’d never before considered the enneagram as a tool for writing characters. I like that!

Hi gang, unsure of whether this is a good place for sending Q’s for Ladybird but… Related to that movie, how do y’all implement personality typing systems in your screenplay work? My creative work isn’t in film but in fantasy novels and I use the enneagram almost religiously when generating characters. The title character in Ladybird very clearly resembles a type in the system and so I was curious what y’all use and/or whether you’re aware of writers/directors using typing systems for character work? Thanks for podcasts! I deliver groceries and y’all make this mundane job so much more tolerable. Cheers!
