THE GOOD LIFE

Druid Hills is a wealthy suburb just east of Atlanta. Situated along Ponce de Leon Avenue and designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, famed creator of Manhattan’s Central Park, Druid Hills is a gracious and elite neighborhood of large century-old mansions on gently sloping grassy hills. Many of these mansions were built with granite quarried from Stone Mountain, further to the east, which is famous today for its large figures of Confederate leaders carved into the side of the mountain.

This suburb hides a secret: the prominent old-money families who reside there comprise a cult devoted to Nyogtha and are deeply intertwined with the Ghouls of Druid Hills Cemetery. They are also white supremacists who were instrumental in the founding of the modern Ku Klux Klan in 1915 at a ritual held atop Stone Mountain which was attended both by racist humans and by racist ghouls disguised in white robes. Each family gives their second child to the ghouls who convert them to their kind. That child eventually eats the corpses of their parents when they die and is in turn possessed by their own dead parents’ sorcerous minds, ensuring the continuity of the cult while allowing the parents to enjoy the good life of wealth and status as long as possible. In Druid Hills the rich literally eat their own.

Joe Dawant, a retired detective who worked in the Atlanta Police Department and the DeKalb County Police Department, is a volunteer for the Center for the Missing Child and a Delta Green friendly. (See CENTER FOR THE MISSING CHILD on page 16 of Delta Green: The Labyrinth.) Joe is obsessed with the Atlanta Child Murders of the late 1970s in which dozens of Black children were kidnapped and murdered. In his research he stumbled across a peculiar demographic trend: many white families in the Druid Hills school system over the past seventy-five years have withdrawn their second child from school between the ages of 12 and 14. These children are never reported missing, but neither are they subsequently enrolled at any public or private school in the state of Georgia.

Joe has one question: What is happening to the children of Druid Hills?
