TWICE Jeongyeon Inspector Episode 12 with OHMYGIRL HYOJUNG & SEUNGHEE Reaction

I think that is why we see the older Twice members keep telling the maknaes to talk to them casually, since they have been friends for close to 10 years (to alleviate the awkwardness of being younger or older). But tradition is a bit hard to kick out of your system. You will still see this type of respect in the 45 degree bow and the 90 degree bows during back stage meetups of other idols/artists.

That feels a bit wrong to do, I'm sure I'm overthinking it at least a little but it seems like they're going with superiority based off age, that's not cool...I'm always trying to learn though, thank you for this information! If it were me, I just wouldn't tell my age so I could have people treat me equally regardless...

Under the “Korean age” system, babies are considered to be one year old on the day they are born, and every January 1, a year is added to people's ages – regardless of their actual birthdate (Although they have adopted the International age system lately, they really cannot kick this habit as it is well engraved in their history) With the fact stated above, Your year of birth forms a simple, quick grouping by which many Koreans differentiate between (친구'chingu/same age) friends, and those higher or lower in 'rank'(age-wise), people who are older or younger should be treated differently. Never assume that because two people are born in the same year, they aren't conscious of age hierarchy between them--even twins in Korea are acutely conscious of who is the elder and who is the younger, and act accordingly.
