Question: "What costumes would the ROs wear for Halloween? 👻"

Answer: 

This has come up in a few writings on here! Namely, 'Couples Costume Contest', 'Trick or Treat', and 'Costume Calamity' where we see S in a steampunk-inspired outfit, R as one of two matching royals, and then R as a elegant vampire with J as an understated outlaw. We'll likely see more in the future.

B likes to make references to certain cartoons/movies they have seen, so they would want a personal connection to their costume. 😌 No masks, minimal makeup, and nothing too itchy or scratchy. They would never dress up as a villain or someone from a slasher. They'd feel more comfortable if their costume links to the Returning Visitor's, and they'll trust their opinion on what they wear too.

S will want to wear something that they hand-crafted–nothing store bought or ready-made. Close friends of S were taken thrift store shopping along with visiting obscure boutiques at the start of Book Two! A particular vintage find might inspire them to construct a costume around it. Their design skills extend to manipulating denim and metal-working. Something steampunk would fit! Also, a character from one of S's many beloved books whose look would be mimicked with exacting detail. S would be touched if the MC asked for their help with a costume, especially while in romance. They'd melt. 🫠

R would want something elaborate, of course, but also timeless in a way that immediately gets them noticed. They would aim to win best costume, if there was such an event. A vampire, a stylish devil, a Victorian, well-dressed ballroom-goer, sexy super villain, etc all come to mind. R has many ideas (too many) and the means to execute them. ⚜ They would likely go to S for help with transforming their color-coded notes and rough sketch into an actual, workable design! (S might rein R in here.) Their costume is guaranteed to turn heads. They'll expect to coordinate with a romanced MC so everyone knows you're an expertly dressed, festive couple at a single glance. (It's a mild turn-on for R, ngl.)

…J will wear 'something', but probably not put that much thought in to it, so gestures at A and possibly the MC they may get some help. They wouldn't want anything too elaborate, possibly a mask, a different shirt, a jacket, or something simple that they could claim was a 'costume'. (It’s not really?? They may be persuaded to make more of an effort.) We know from past Patreon writings that J's Halloweens aren't typically spent at parties/events because they watch over the remains of your old home. (This will be transparently revealed in Book Two, especially for J/JR-mancers.) This isn't J being anti-Halloween. They're not used to celebrating the holiday, not to mention trick or treating would be hard in the farmlands (the land acreage); therefore, it would likely be something they first experienced with you or once they were old enough to take A, whom we know would live for Halloween. 🎃

Your MC might be able to change J's view of this time of year.

JR. R will want you all to match or coordinate in some capacity like the three musketeers, trifecta of Greek gods, the three caballeros, etc. It could also be by color or aesthetic! Both of the individual tastes still apply (R's drama and J's minimalism), yet the three of you coming together on an idea makes it more special. J is more likely to fold, while R will compromise as well. It's mutually sweet.

Mal is a tough one as evidenced by what they say in 'Trick or Treat':

The Waiter 

"Mmm-hmm," Mal softly hums. "Technically, I didn't need an invite since this event is open to the community. Mrs. Dorran lets anyone in." His focus trails over to Charlene, who is too proud to leave the kitchen area despite not being wanted. "You really don't get my costume?"

Mal's typical indulgent smile lacks its customer service polish, instead reminding you of a glinting blade, eye-catching yet dangerous.

"There's nothing to 'get'," she replies, laughing at the idea. "You're always in that same jacket, unless you're going for a basic 'bad boy' vibe?"

"I'm a homicidal maniac. They look just like everyone else."

Mal's unwaveringly pleasant delivery is in stark contrast to the soul-searching stare he levels at Charlene, only now choosing to give her his undivided attention that she's slowly crumbling under.

Their 'joke' aside, Mal is unlikely to dress up for Halloween because they treat the day differently than most of the sugary-laced townsfolk. For you, they'll consider dropping by a party to spend time together, but they don't linger for long. Mal will praise you for your costume before asking what you think of theirs while wearing the exact same clothes. They'll then smile enigmatically at you. 😌
