Heart of the Woods Interview: Morgan

(Hey everyone, Rachel here! For my creative post this month, I'm sharing the first of four in-character interviews with the HOTW gals! Hope you enjoy!)

 After the release of the Heart of the Woods demo, we got a lot of great questions about Morgan. Who is she? What’s she about? Does she actually think Tara’s funny? To answer these questions, we’ve sat down with the woman herself to get to the bottom of things.

She arrives at the studio around 3pm (the interview was scheduled for noon) and simply walks into the middle of the room and sits down in the chair without any introduction. However, after an entrance like that, I don’t think any introduction is necessary. While small, she exudes a surprisingly strong aura; some kind of mix of serenity and intimidation. I can tell I’m not the only person in the studio who can feel it. However, as soon as the camera rolls, that aura seems to suppress itself. Everything about her takes on a more muted feel. 

Melanie: Glad to have you here, Morgan!

Morgan: Yeah.

Melanie: So! Let’s get into it, then. Why don’t you just tell us a bit about yourself, for starters?

Morgan: Hmmm. I’m 23. I work in an antique shop. I live with my mother. I like beer with dinner and coffee at every other time of the day. I’m a lesbian. I like watching vlogs but my internet is too bad for me to watch livestreams. People in the village think I’m strange and a troublemaker.

Melanie: I see...and are you a troublemaker?

Morgan: People in Eysenfeld would think a dog was a troublemaker if it barked too loud. They’d probably think I was some kind of problem child even if I hadn’t wandered into the village square with blood all over my face once. If anything, they’re probably more bothered by the fact that I’ve had multiple girlfriends than the blood wandering.

Melanie: Interesting. And, ah, why did you walk around with blood all over your face?

Morgan: I was out stargazing and ran into a tree and broke my nose. I didn’t want the blood to get on my sweater so I wiped it on my face instead. It wasn’t that much, but people were worried anyway.

Melanie: Wow. You must really love that sweater.

Morgan: It’s the first piece of clothing I knit myself. I learned how to do it from an ex-girlfriend a few years ago. I like having something to do with my hands.

Melanie: Only a few years ago? But that looks like professional-level work!

Morgan: I don’t need to do something for a long time to get good at it, I just do it. When we broke up, my ex told me that “at least [I] learned something from our relationship”.

Melanie: Ouch.

Morgan: That’s actually one of the better breakups I’ve had.

Melanie: You mentioned before that people in Eysenfeld take issue with you having had multiple partners. Why is that?

Morgan: Nearly everyone I grew up with is already married. Girls here tend to marry the first guy they date as soon as they turn 18. I’ve only dated four women, but to them that’s scandalous.

Melanie: Do you have any interest in settling down at all?

Morgan: No. I’ve got way too much to do to let myself get tied down to someone who makes me stay at home all day. I’m not going to miss out on an adventure because it wouldn’t leave me time to make dinner.

Melanie: I can see why you’re such a big Taranormal fan.

For the first time this afternoon, I can see something in her face that resembles genuine emotion. I can’t tell what it is, but it seems positive.

Morgan: Yes! I love Taranormal. Seeing her be so unafraid to break the rules in pursuit of the truth is inspirational.

Melanie: Even if that’s resulted in her being arrested on multiple occasions?

Morgan: I don’t see how that makes a difference.

Melanie: I see….and is there anything else about the show that stands out? 

Morgan: She’s funny. When I have a bad day, her videos are comforting. I don’t really need much more than that.

Melanie: That’s really sweet.

Morgan: I guess.

Melanie: So tell me...what was your first thought when you met her in person for the first time?

Morgan: “She looks a lot cuter when she’s not at 144p.”

Melanie: Wait, seriously?

Morgan: I live in the middle of the woods. Do you think I can get good streaming quality out here?

Melanie: Fair enough. Anything else?

Morgan: She was cute, funny, and friendly. I was mostly surprised by how she wasn’t different from how she acts on her show.

Melanie: Was that a problem?

Morgan: No. She listened to what I had to say and actually believed me. As long as she does that, I don’t care how she acts.

Melanie: That’s good to hear. I’m sure the three of you are going to have a great time out there!

Morgan: Yeah, I’m sure it’ll be a real barrel of laughs.

Melanie: Before we wrap up, I’ve got a couple more personal questions.

Morgan: Sure.

Melanie: While you’re the smallest of the group, you’re clearly the strongest by far. I would be surprised if you could lift the other girls without even trying. What’s your workout routine?

Morgan: I used to fight a lot. Nowadays, I just do a lot of squats and chop a lot of firewood.

Melanie: Oh, does your home have a fireplace?

Morgan: No.

Melanie: So you chop firewood for your neighbors, then?

Morgan: No.

Melanie: …………..

Melanie: So, a lot of squats, huh?

Morgan: Yeah. Girls around here like seeing me do them, and they’re easy to do while I watch videos. I can’t just sit there and watch something passively.

Melanie: You don’t find it relaxing to just sit there calmly?

Morgan: The only thing I find relaxing is the forest. Taranormal makes me feel at peace, but that doesn’t mean I want to stop moving. It just makes me want to move more.

Melanie: Well, I’m sure you and Tara will have plenty of opportunities to move more together while she’s visiting you in Eysenfeld!

Morgan: What’s that supposed to mean?

Melanie: Nothing! Anyway, that’s going to do it for us today. Thank you so much for coming by!

Morgan: Yeah.

Melanie: I know we’re all very excited to learn more about the four of you, and this talk has certainly been….enlightening.
