3D Arches - Finally. R17wip4 + a simple raytracing test shader
Added 2020-10-15 19:09:28 +0000 UTC
Hey!
I continued working on R17
Here are the changes:
- 3D Arches - Finally. no more 2D cutout models. (Note: The 3D ones only work on 1.14)
For compatibility and performance reasons I'll still leave the 2D arches in the pack - as an alternative. The 3D Arches are a lot heavier on performance - they are custom entity models made with the same technique as the cylinders/balls from last update.

- added diagonal walls (white concrete): Used for sandstone_walls. (Place them in a zig-zag pattern, the corner parts use the diagonal wall model)
- added white basic stairs similar to those from the old "side-pack" (block = grindstone)
- added smaller white concrete stair blocks (with 4 instead of 2 steps)
- added a custom GUI Texture (hotbar and menu buttons) Clean and minimal style.
- Fixed all custom icon textures (1.16. item gui lighting)
- added 4k textures for the raindrop glass (also: roof window feature for all glass types)
- cleaned up and optimized a lot of the block models.
- added custom item names + the inventory search feature (search for "umsoea" in the creative inventory to see the blocks with custom textures/models.
R17 is almost done. A few models are still not finished (crossbow e.g.) Also, performance is still an issue, I'll try my best to optimize the lower res. versions as much as possible. But R17 will definitely be more heavy than the previous packs - mainly because it can be used as a standalone pack - it does not require older content (R16/R15 etc)
In the last ~3 weeks we received a lot of great screenshots on our discord server.
Really worth checking out the #fancy-screenshots channel for inspiration.

Some raytracing shader tests:
As mentioned in my last post, I'm currently trying to learn coding minecraft/glsl shaders.
Here is a super simple raytracer running in minecraft:

(gif) a moving lightsource with raytraced shadows.
I also added the minecraft sun to the scene (not visible in this .gif because its night)

Thanks! I had already deleted the files since there are a lot more recent versions

2021-01-13 19:09:55 +0000 UTCBrilliant brother! Simply brilliant! I've been following some(the parts I DO understand anyways!) of the ray tracing/light mechanics, and the work involved in getting ray tracing to look the beautiful way it does it's work. The math involved is simply ENORMOUS! I'm certain what you have released here is nothing short of a months long, herculean effort, with countless thousands of pages of code, most tossed, and some kept. In Sonic Ether's technical blog posts, he's often caring enough to have a simple sentence or 2, at the end of MANY paragraphs explaining the technical intricacies of his efforts... I guess what I'm stumbling on about is: although I may not understand how to go about 75% of the technical work involved in your work, that 25% is more than enough to define the huge amount of effort required to post those 2 AWE INSPIRING pics today! Thank you brother. Your effort never ceases to amaze me... And likely every other of your Patreon followers!
