We’re home.
It’s nice to be back.
I spent a lot of the time in the tour van listening through old demos. We’re starting to dig deep into the archives as we begin the process of putting together an album. We were driving through a surprise blizzard in the mountains heading into Denver and I rediscovered this old demo ‘Home’ from 2020 that I’d completely forgotten about. It feels like I made the song for that drive without knowing it. Now I’ll think of that treacherous journey anytime I listen to this song. It’s been cemented as a winter song.
It’s hard to feel too homesick on tour because missing something requires at least some static element of time and place. On tour nothing is still so all you can focus on is what's moving in front of you. We played our final show at the Troubadour and as everyone pulled away and went in their separate directions I realized everything had suddenly stopped moving. Tour was over. Everyone lingered in LA for a little post tour vacation. Of course, the next morning I woke up a ripping pain in my back that eventually traveled down my leg and I ended up with some pretty severe sciatica pain. Two weeks later I’m still battling some lingering pain but I think I might be through the worst of it. We're back in Brooklyn settling into our routine and the music. Happy to be home.
