Changing the game, Part 1
Added 2020-01-20 23:39:52 +0000 UTCHi, In this post, I'm going to write about the changes in how the game works(gameplay) and how the story develops.
Yellow Family has been in development for a while, during this time many things changed but the story and mechanics not so much. The 3D scenario came up as an alternative to drawn backgrounds, I draw really bad, so that was my workaround. Then added the navigation system, the problem is that when the developer gives the player the freedom to go anywhere, there must be something that justifies that, things to interact with, not to mention the times of the day which adds more time to do nothing. The game doesn't and can't have enough content -that I'm comfortable with- due to budget limitations. So for the moment, the approach I'm going to take is guiding the player to the events, so everyone can see easily the implemented content just by going forward. After the events, the player will have the freedom to visit any place like in the current version.
-STORY CHANGES-
Something I pursue is avoiding the player to skip text, if that normally happens, means that this text is boring or irrelevant to the player, for that reason I'm going to continue revising events, removing unnecessary parts. As an example, Bort gets involved in some parts that don't really need to, like the photo thing, she will tell him what happened and that's about it.
-GAMEPLAY CHANGES-
In the same way that the navigation is being limited to avoid it from getting on the way of the story/experience of the player without any benefit, the conversations will also be changed, some characters might retain the conversation menu, while in others will be removed, and if there's something new to talk about, it will show up on the next conversation with the character, no extra steps.
The "small talks" and reactions of the characters are a nice concept but need to be further developed, at its current form means that the other character will get angry just by talking about things he/she doesn't like, which affects to the stats of the character so the character becomes angry as usual. I'm limiting these things to situations like the bathroom scene (That's how it was before implementing all this).
-REPLAYING EVENTS-
The image gallery is being implemented, inside of it some images will show Text/Icon that means that there's an event attached to it. The player will be able to select between view just the image or replay the related event.

There are other aspects that might change but at this point, those are the clear ones, I keep asking myself what's the purpose of some things, sometimes it just needs to be tweaked, but many other times it's better to remove something and focus on more important things, like when you clean up your house or room "That thing, Does it bring you joy?".
Thank you all for sticking with me in my journey becoming a better developer and trying to make a better game. I wasn't planning to keep going for this long without having any success but it's easier to keep going when you really like what you do, know you can do it better and also know that you ain't the only "crazy" person who finds this interesting :P

In any case I love your game and I hope you will continue it. Good luck for the future
