48 Hours in Sapporo | Trip with Natsuki | Day One

Hey folks!

So this week Natsuki and I packed our bags and headed to Sapporo, Hokkaido to shoot a few videos.

I've been keeping a daily diary of our trip (similar to our trip to Europe last month), charting the ups and downs of our journey, and today you can find the first diary for 'Day One' of our trip - with all the photos - attached in a glorious PDF to this post.

We also toyed around with a new camera we bought (DJI Pro) for filming stabilised shots and slow motion. You can find an experimental clip of Natsuki strolling around central Sapporo attach above or here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6jIsjGoELs

It was my first time to use the camera properly so it's not overly great, but it's a start - I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done with it in the coming weeks.

If you yourself have visited Sapporo, please share your experiences and tips on where to go with us all below! I'll be returning in August to film some more scenes (as there are three videos - the first which will be out in two weeks), and I'm open to ideas on things to do.

Overall, I’d say the city was better than I anticipated (and far larger than I’d imagined). I'm ever so slightly envious of people who live there!

For now though folks, enjoy the article, the snazzy video, and the bizarre photos with the article!

So when is or was the NHK World show? A few months ago I found out that they stream it for free on their web site so I've been watching occasionally.

Jason Bucata

Haha, well day 3 doesn't do that assessment any favors.

Next t-shirt design "Zangi chicken is deep Friend chicken"

Sapporo definitely looks great, but I keep thinking the video looks like one big booze ad! Not that that's a bad thing of course!

Looks great, Chris! I hope I'll still be able to appreciate all that neon in December when it'll be utterly baltic out there.

Mz. Ultraviolence

My guess would be that 1. a Canon 70D on a gimbal is much heavier than the Osmo Pro and 2. a gimbal for the 70D costs about as much as the Osmo.

Johannes

Thank you so much. We're planning a trip in October and Sapporo is definitely one of the spots on our list.

What's the camera? I had a look through DJI's product page and couldn't figure it out. Is it the Osmo Pro? And if it is, out of curiosity, why that rather than a gimbal or something for one of your existing cameras?

Nope

I know a Japanese children's author whose books feature characters somewhat like Melonbear. I'll have to ask if he was involved in it!

Mark Rogers

Beautiful shots!

I'm going to leave that in there as a humorous Easter egg. Who wouldn't want a deep friend chicken anyway!

Saw a typo that you might find humorous, toward the end of you article you said the phrase: "deep friend chicken". I almost thought it was the real name as there is some pretty ridiculous English in Japan.

Anywhere that's reminiscent of Blade Runner is a good place to be. Natsuki and the pigeon was deep af, and I love the new camera!

The aforementioned "White Lovers Chocolate" factory/museum, and the open air museum in Sapporo (Kaitaku-no Mura) are worth a visit.

This is great! Im heading to Sapporo in September as well :D

Natsuki so cool in that clip!
