Upcoming Videos | Abroad in Japan + Patreon Exclusive

Hey folks!

I hope you’re having a great weekend so far. I wanted to fill you on the upcoming videos for the next 7-10 days as there’s some great stuff on the way.

**Out Now | Staying in a Tokyo Capsule Hotel**

After a million years I finally caved in and made the inevitable capsule hotel video, that all vloggers in Japan have to make at some point (as it’s the kind of video that gets easy views).

As Capsule Hotels go, it was pretty decent in terms of capsule size, price and cleanliness. Although really, it was the foot bath which won me over (or the pleasant pond that I may have accidentally ruined).

There was also Wasabi Kit Kats thrown in for good measure.

You can watch it here:https://youtu.be/U7Q3sKNuZA0

If you have any questions about the video, as always, feel free to ask away below!

**Abroad in Japan | 4 Ways Living in Japan Changed Me**

Given that this video is the 100th video on the Abroad in Japan channel it seems like a good opportunity to look back on some of the ways Japanese culture has affected me over the last 4.5 years, and some of the aspects of the culture which have rubbed off on me.

Half case study, half absurdity, expect the random appearance of Human Centipede figurines (sorry), and many many comparisons between the UK and Japan.

**Patreon Exclusive | How I Learned Japanese: 2 Years in Detail**

Whilst I’ve made quite a few Japanese learning videos over the years, I’v never made a definitive chronological retelling of the process. For example, if you watch some of the early videos I go from knowing nothing, to acting like a so-called ‘expert’ on learning how to write Kanji, in the space of 9 months and memorising a 15 minute Japanese speech and winning a Japanese speech contest after 24 months.

It’s time to go into detail of the story once and for all, revealing a detailed account of everything I used, what worked, what didn’t, and the frustrating and rewarding moments in between.

It’s quite a personal story, which is why I’d rather have it as a Patreon exclusive as opposed to on Abroad in Japan. Above all though, I want the people who support the channel and keep it going, to be the ones to benefit from this knowledge the most.

(Also, apologies for the delay on the video - it’s quite a bit longer than the usual Abroad in Japan videos given the extensive details).

**Abroad Perspective | Learn Japanese with Natsuki**

Natsuki and I discuss the difference between English and Japanese onomatopoeia, focussing on animal noises, where I test him on 10 different words/sounds.
As always, expect hilarity, education and confusion.

**AND FINALLY**

I’m currently filming a new video on the island of Sado for three days with Ryotaro. I feel like whilst Ryotaro has featured in a ton of videos over the year, many viewers still don’t know a great deal about him. He’s also a bastion of infinite wisdom, that may be of use with regards to Japan / Japanese. If you have any ideas for a short video to make with him though, or a Q&A style video, let me know. We should have enough time to make it happen!

Is the 'How I learned Japanese: In detail' video coming soon still? #Impatient :P

Can't wait to learn Japanese with Natsuki. ;D maybe someday I'll meet him in person.

Great to hear that mate! If you want any specific advice/directions, be sure to drop me a message.

We're looks by at making two sets of videos! One series of Natsuki reacting to stuff in the U.K. (For standard YouTube videos). And then of course, the documentary/mockumentsry as well!

Thought I'd pop this here, I'm going to Tokyo and then Sendai on April 6. Your channel is one of the reasons I'm going to Sendai (I'm catching the Cherry blossom season up there) and dropping into Fukushima as well. If I had never seen your channel I wouldn't have known much about the Tohoku region and I can't wait to explore around there. Cheers mate.

Have enjoyed them all, as always. Just watched Learn Japanese with Natsuki, your comment "I'm a simple man. I see Natsuki, I press like." applies very much, thumbs up for Natsuki! On that note, I saw the vid of him reacting to the sidewalk urinal in London. Are there more vids of him in the UK planned?

Looking forward to all the new stuff. Especially the more in depth look on how you learnt Japanese. As someone also studying (As many of your viewers are I imagine) this will be a good one.

With all those videos lined up, I am really excited about the new sarcastic and educational content. If there is going to be a Q&A with Ryotaro, I would like to know about the most embarrassing/awkward situation you encountered together. (Maybe even caused by one of you?)

Really looking forward to the new videos. Especially learning Japanese with Natsuki :D I also think Ryotaro is a cool guy. So for a Q&A I want to know what his first thoughts were when you guys met for the first time. :)

Ask him which poor sods accent he stole!

I am in Osaka at the moment and tried to learn Japanese before coming. Have to say without learning some basic phrases, pronounciations I would be at a total lost. Looking forward to your in detail learning Japanese video 😀.

Looking forward to the new vid with Ryotaro, you guys have great chemistry.

Yes! More Nastukisms. Looking forward to the Sado island video too. Been a long time fan of the taiko drum band Kodo which calls Sado home. I just saw them perform here in the states. They're so good. I think they have taiko drum workshops during the warmer season. You and Ryotaro should check that out! 😃

In Kyoto, there is a capsule hotel that has way larger spaces - like mini rooms. So you have standing space, a little (very little) table but it still works like a capsule: silence, communal showers etc,. Worth looking into options on the capsule websites for bigger sizes.

Several! They're in Tokyo at the moment - I need to head down and grab them next week!

Abroad in Japan

Awesome, can't wait :) Also, do you think Ryotaro could give us some tips on how to perfect an English accent? Mine has hints of German.

Ryan Wolf

Sweet looking forward to these videos. Have you received any packages yet from giving the address out?

Hey chris! an off topic question (i didn't find any way to private message you :\): if i come to japan, is there anyway to meet you up? not talking about a fan meet up, but rather sitting on a cup of coffee and talking a bit. i find you as a big inspiration for me and i've already been to japan once. planning to come again!

For someone who is a little claustrophobic, is a capsule hotel a good option? Or are they all spacious to prevent such a phobia from occurring?

Right?! Japanese onomatopoeia are a world away from English ones, so it's a pretty interesting topic!

Abroad in Japan

By the way, much anticipation for the language vid!

OH MY GOD! Finally, someone talks about Japanese onomatopoeias! It's one of my very favorite aspects of Japanese. My Japanese friends and I have literally sat in Starbucks for an hour making American English vs Japanese animal sounds. My favorite Japanese book is literally a book of Japanese sounds, everything from water boiling, a bottle rolling across the ground, to wind blowing through a tree. Pay homage to the onomatopoeias, people!!

Topic wise, I think there's pretty much a video for everyone next week!

Abroad in Japan

Very cool update, looking forward to all these videos!
