Daily Update 11/4/24

So today I had to do a couple of "redraws" and a fix to the 180-Rule. The 180 Rule is a rule for movies but also applies to comics. The idea is that when you have two characters facing each other in a scene, you have to imagine a line that runs through the two people, and you can't cross that line. Google can probably explain it better. Anyway, I noticed more than a few pages in Chapter 6 violate that rule. So I spent some of the day fixing it in finished and current pages.

Also, I don't know what I was thinking in Chapter 5 Page 3, but the Toph Panels didn't look very natural. They didn't look like someone laying on the ground in exhaustion, and today it hit me. No one lays on the ground face first with their arms at their hips. So, I added her arms. I also fixed some anatomy inconsistencies on Azula in this page.

All in all, I could only get some of the initial lighting pass today. I'll finish it up tomorrow.
Chapter 5 - Page 3

For comparison, here's where we started today.

Chapter 6 - Page 3

and for reference, where we started.
I don't know why I missed all of this. I guess I just have days where I'm incompetent.

Here's the way to think of it. In the top panel, Azula is on the right, in the bottom panel she's on the left. That violates the 180 rule. It's possible to violate the rule, but you have to do so thoughtfully and with intent. Generally, though, it's just about the readability of a scene, and it's noticeable if it isn't followed. I'm sure I've broken it a few times by now, but these next few pages must be consistent.

There are a couple of pages where I see the rule violated and they will be really tough to fix.  Anyway, see you tomorrow with the main shadows of these two pages hopefully done.
