Daily Update 9/25/24

Alrighty, kind of a long WIP post today because I wanted to share some more of the rendering process.

Let's start with the flats.
As you may know, this is a redo of one of the pages. My main problem with the previous page was that it lacked intimacy and wasn't drawn very well. This is drawn better and has more intimacy. It isn't perfect by any stretch, but it's an improvement.

So I start rendering. I pick my light source, and try to make it consistent with the other pages. I block it out in cel-shading because it's easier to set up a light source this way.

 I start smoothing out the transitions. There are parts that I like and parts that I don't. Vlora's upper torso and arm. Toph's breast. The render is coming along nicely, but something about it is bugging me. I can't quite put my finger on it, so I leave it for the day and move on to other projects and studying.

 I came back today and realized that there were two major problems. Toph's hand, and Azula's hand. In the case of Toph's hand, it doesn't look proportionally right, and it kind of looks like she's trying to push Vlora away. That kind of ruins the feeling I'm going for. Like Vlora is taking charge, being aggressive, grabbing Toph by the neck, but she's not hurting Toph. Then there's Azula's hand. Her hand is angled in a way that makes Toph's ass look much flatter. So not only do I change her hand's pose, but I also add a little bit of meat to Toph, and I make it look a little smushed as if it's being impacted. Yet... something is still bothering me. I decide to take a small break and play the new Mortal Kombat expansion.


I return from my brief break and realize, "Oh my god, the lighting is bad for what I want." Like I said, I want this to feel intimate. The way the lighting was done before may have been accurate, but it was fighting that feeling by separating the forms. I want them to sort of merge, especially around the crotch. I leave Toph's breast in light because it's an area I want to focus on, because the light would hit it, and because it kind of keeps the eye between Vlora's ass, and Toph's breast.


And this is where we're at with it right now. I've still got some work to do, I have to add the third shadow, specular highlights, do some edge refinement, add some texture, add some effects, and I have to get the background done. Also, since I decided to scrap this page, I'm making this one into two. One version without cum, and one version with. The version with is going to have a different expression for Toph. Maybe lip-biting. Hopefully I can get it all done tomorrow. We'll see.
