Image Reporting - Updated ToS

Last night we updated our Terms of Service to include Section 2.2, our Upload Policy.

Our community is built on the creative talent of each individual contributing, and we encourage members to showcase their own unique characters and artwork. This includes all aspects of our site, but most important, our image uploads.

Our Image uploads showcase a wide variety of talent, and we at Refsheet believe that the talent of the artists as well as the character creators should be acknowledged, recognized, and properly credited. Each of us invests time, effort, and in some cases money to creating our own unique characters, and that is what we are here to showcase.

Our policy has updated to ensure that users are uploading artwork which was by them, for them, or permission granted for them to use. Whenever possible, we encourage users to use the Source URL field on images to credit the creator.

Three Big Things:

1) You must have rights to use the images you are uploading,
2) You can't claim ownership of a character that is not yours,
3) Please properly flag your NSFW content (more on this in a later post).

What to do if you see questionable images:

On the right side of the image lightbox (bottom on mobile), there is now a "Report Image" link underneath the image description. If you click that, select the appropriate violation, include a helpful note, and a moderator will review it.

What if I'm not sure if I can upload an image?

Ask the artist! If you're the artist, is it your character? If you don't know who the artist is, probably best not to upload it.

I can use the image, but do I have to credit the artist?

Please do. The Source URL field is the best possible place to do that, and should point to the artist's post on Twitter, DeviantArt, FurAffinity, etc. The best course is to, again, ask the artist.

(On a personal note, this makes it 1,000 times easier for other people to find and possibly commission that artist. Exposure doesn't buy Prismacolors if we have to hunt down a watermark.)

Oh noes! Somebody reported my images?!1

It could happen. If they were reported for a usage rights violation, we'll investigate. If it appears you have rights to use it, we'll contact you and have a chat. If you linked to the source, and it's obvious you're allowed to have that image up, our job is pretty easy, and you're good. No worries.

If you don't have rights to use the image, you'll get an email saying a Moderator Action happened, and that's it.

If the flag was for NSFW tagging, we'll probably just re-tag the image for you. We've been doing this already, by the way, because admittedly the tag as NSFW button is a bit hidden right now.

So you'll tag my NSFW images for me if they're reported? Cool!

My moderator has seen things they will never unsee. Please, for the love of all that is our sanity, review our content guidelines and properly flag your images.

As always, if you have any questions, tweet us, comment here, use the Support forum, email mau@refsheet.net, or send a carrier pigeon. If you send a raven with a message, you're not getting the raven back. I'll treat it very well and give it lots of raspberries and shiny things to hoard.

Image Reporting - Updated ToS

Comments

I super appreciate you adding this feature! I ran across some blatant photo theft a few weeks back and asked about this (and reported via the means you suggested but this is way easier and looks sharp. Keep up the great work!

Hey there! 1) That should be fine, crediting each image could be considerably tedious if you have a large gallery from the same artist. As long as, on quick glance, people can figure out who did the art. 2) Nope! Flagging a character as NSFW will hide that character and all its images in SFW browsing mode. If you only have a few NSFW images, but the actual content (text, etc) of your character page is clean, no need to flag the character, just the specific images.

Mau Abata

if credit for art is credited on the page but not on each image since all images are by the same artist is that cool enough. It took me a long time to find the image settings initially so i'm slowly editing image titles and giving credit as possible. 2. Question on the NSFW of a character. Does it need to be flagged on the character page if say 1 image is (and is flagged so but the remainder of the page is sfw? (this was a pending question i had some time) )
