motherboard more like ovenboard

so this is happening

I'm gonna need to replace some parts here. I dont believe I should be running anything heavier than MS Paint in the meantime.

I would be quite interested in seeing a picture of that out of pure curiosity, maybe they forgot to include the retention arm with the cooler... You mentioned you were getting a new cooler anyway though, so hopefully you won't have to deal with it much longer.

There are 2 plastic bits screwed into the motherboard, but for some reason the cooler is not directly connected to them. It loosely fits between in that plastic frame. I did hotglue the cooler to the plastic previously but it fell off eventually. Right now I set my PC on its side so the magical force of gravity will prevent it from falling off.

Hmmm, the old AMD coolers should have either a black plastic or aluminum retention bar which hold the cooler on; the lack of mounting pressure would lead to much higher temps than normal.

If you think that's old you dont wanna see the rest of my specs. But I ordered a new cooler and a new graphics card which should arrive in a day or two (or maybe more if they skip the weekend). I will replace the CPU by the end of the year, regulating the heating is higher priority atm.

The software is faulty tho, its showing it in Celsius but its calculating it in Fahrenheit. So its not melting off but its still quite a sizzle.

Funny, the cooler did literally pop off. its so badly designed that the only thing holding it to the CPU is the thermal paste. This is after replacting the paste and sticking it back on.

Good moment to cook an egg. And also, I demand a paint powered lewd picture!

123c on an AMD CPU that old? Is that even possible? While Intel CPU's are "fine" till about 100c, I'm pretty sure AMD CPU's start having serious trouble at 80c (if not before that).

Not sure what your level of DIY experience is, but its likely just some really ancient thermal paste that has failed, simply replacing it should fix the overheating problem. Other possibilities is the CPU fan failed or the heatsink has come unseated/loose somehow.

That is kinda a really old CPU, maybe consider upgrading to Ryzen or some i5/i7 if you can spare it? That's even older than my x4 845 and I hate it lol

Show us your ms paint skills

Zxios

Just pour some water on it itll be fine.

Please tell me you're going to give us a delicious piece of art on MS Paint. ~I'm not joking.~
