But at the same time, I think the reason Hems gets close to getting the axe is because she's gonna try to protect Cotton. Like I said below, she does seem like the reckless type, but not selfish.

Hemlock is many things but she's not uncaring of the other herbivores, if anything she's violently overprotective of them. Oren probably sent Cotton with her to keep her grounded, balance out her anger with the need to keep him safe.
