I just read the most fantastic book about the end of the age of exploration. It was about Lope Martín, an Afro-Portuguese navigator, who was the first European to sail from the Americas, to asia (the Philippines), and then back to the Americas (they had to go near Alaska).
When he got back, the Spanish thanked him for opening the pacific to trade by sentencing him to a cruel death. He was to hang, but first he had to successfully get them back to the Philippines. Chaos ensues on the high seas.

I have to admit, I don’t know a lot of history before the 20th Century. I teach a British literature class for a high school and it’s pretty cool to learn a lot of stuff I didn’t know. Plus I enjoy watching the videos you post as it definitely adds a lot of context to what I teach, specifically when it comes to world history during the different time periods in British history.
