2025-09-19 17:39:13 +0000 UTCAh man... cool experiment, but I hate seeing perfectly-good drives sacrificed LOL. My guess is that with that magnet being so strong it perhaps misaligned the heads (at least at some point) dragging them across the disk surface, perhaps. Hmm....

2025-09-19 05:35:28 +0000 UTCIn 2001, I used a simple fridge magnet, to somehow erase the CMOS on an old 486 or Pentium 1 system. I left it sitting on the chip for a good hour or so, and when I came back, the computer wouldn't even boot. π€·π½ββοΈπ€·π½ββοΈ I don't know if I actually erased the chip, or something else, but there was no display out.
