Pluta and the Luciferianism

If I told you that Lucifer is the name of a Saint, would you believe it? No? Too bad, IT'S TRUE!

The century was the 4th AC; and the place was Cagliari, in Sardinia (which, for those who don't know, is in Italy, at the time it was the Roman Empire) and there was born a boy known as "Lucifero" who would become a priest and even BISHOP (Possibly around 350 A.D.)

The problem is that at that time Constantine's son, Emperor Constantius II (317-361), wanted to be all like peace and love and even without knowing anything about theology he demanded that the bishops take a stand against Saint Athanasius who was fighting against Arianism in Council of Milan (355). This order arrived at Lucifer, he refused to support Arianism and was confined to the palace for 3 days to have a little talk:
Constantius II: FOR THE LAST TIME, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM IN STAYING AGAINST ATHANASIO?!
Lucifer: HE DISAGREES WITH ARIANISM!
Constantius II: SO WHAT?
Lucifer: Arianism is a belief that rejects the Divinity of Jesus Christ. It is a Blasphemy that causes dishonor to the name and identity, not only of our savior, of Saint Mary who gave birth to him and of all the martyrs who are now part of his body, but also of God the Father! A heresy that, honestly, should be punished because it is so disrespectful! Saint Nicholas hit Ario in the face, but to me he didn't hit enough!
Constâncio II: ... so?
Lucifer: GO F*** Yourself!
Constantius II: BAN! YOU ARE BANNED!

And so, Saint Lucifer was exiled from Rome along with other Bishops. I have no proof that the conversation between them was like that, but you also have no proof that it wasn't.

Outside of Rome, LuLu spent as much time as possible fighting against Arianism, writing A LOT against this belief and even sending some letters criticizing the Emperor.
After Constantius II fell hard in 361, his brother-in-law, Julian (331-363), now Emperor, removed the exile of all the pro-Athanasian Bishops and called the Council of Alexandria to make peace. But... Lucy wasn't very happy because, for him, the bishops who defended Arianism should receive punishment
Juliano: "Hey Lucifer, give me a teaspoon, go..."
Lucifer: "I don't mix with Aryans!"

Lucas returned to Cagliari, Sardinia, where he died in 370 and, interestingly, had followers who supported his schism against the impunity of the Arians and their supporters. These became known as The Luciferians. He was so acclaimed for his defense of the faith that he became a Saint by acclamation, and is still venerated today in Sardinia, Italy. He even has a church in his name. His Liturgical feast day is, look, May 20th!

"Wait... How did the church allow a Priest to become a Bishop with a name like that?"
Simple: Lucifer is actually the Roman name for the God Phosphorus (morning star, in Greek mythology) and no, it was not uncommon to have names of Pagan Gods. After all, for many these names were just terms for things. It's like there was a god called "Fire". We literally had a Pope called Dionysius back in the 3rd century! Goa ahead, google it!

"But in the Bible! Lucifer is the name of the Devil!" You're talking about Isaiah 14:12, ay? This is actually a mistake:
The term used in Isaiah is "הֵילֵל בֶּן-שָׁחַר" (helel ben shachar), which translates as "morning star, son of the morning." And Saint Jerome, who was the first to translate the Bible into Latin, "located" the word, because as I wrote above, "morning star" for the Romans is Lucifer. It's like if there was a passage talking about our planet and it translated it to "Terra" (Roman version of Gaia) oh, wait... THAT HAPPENED! THIS IS WHY WE CALL THE PLANET "TERRA" IN PORTUGUESE.

Oh, and in the context of the time, the passage was not attributed to Satan. It referred to a king of Babylon. This interpretation of "Satan was an angel of light who fell from heaven" came MUCH later mainly because of the passage in 2 Corinthians 11:14 ("Satan disguises himself as an angel of light")

So, once again, Pluta tried to shock but broke his face. This talk about Lucifer being Satan is a relatively modern thing. Of course, not everyone knows this, even among Catholics. Unfortunately, this interpretation caught on and took root in the popular conception. I'm sure I'll be excommunicated when I try to give my son that name, but the good thing is that this is my future self's problem. XD
