Today is my 30th birthday. That's kind of a big deal, or at least it is to me, so I knew I had to make a video about it.
The last time I did this was three years ago when I turned 27: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kn1X4aJ-Is
That was a pretty bleak video, so judging by the new one, I'm not feeling quite so bad this time about being another year older.
Honestly, though, that's mostly because the past year has been pretty good. I've been productive. My creative work on YouTube is now my full-time job. If me from a year ago was turning 30, this video would've been WAY bleaker.
I've got a lot of thoughts about what it means to turn 30, or more accurately, what it means for ME to turn 30. To write this, I dumped this long stream-of-consciousness ramble into a notebook, then refined it into some key ideas, then constructed a narrative to express them. Matt, Jake, and I made this all over the past four days, and I stayed up until 6am the night before the my birthday to finish it. Truly a Peak Patrick moment.
I know stuff like this will get a tiny fraction of the views of any video essay, but these are my favorite type of videos I make. Hope you guys enjoy it.
