Greetings adventurers!

They say that the greatest thing one can control is your temper, and I find some truth in that. I also understand that there’s a time and place to let that out, albeit in a somewhat controlled manner. I originally crafted this piece for a friend that had some anger management issues, but I will say that I think he let the power get to his head until he no longer had one. Anyways, after that it ended up back in my shop and back on the shelf. I only hope that whoever buys it can maybe temper themselves a little better.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

This was one of those exercises that ended up quite different for the two versions of this. Like I’ve always said, I try to design the best item possible for each system as an independent design exercise. They often share some flavor text, but trying to match mechanics one to one is a pathway to making bad items for 5E and PF2E which is obviously not what we’re trying to accomplish here.

For the 5E version, I wanted to offer something other than just the additional property damage that was core to the theme of this item. Offering the option to make it do piercing damage is relatively lightweight and doesn’t have a lot of game relevant reasons to do it, but there’s enough of them that it does make this a slightly nice quality of life ability on the item. In order to offer it some additional punch though, I gave it a knockback mechanic with additional damage. This helps to cement the “heavy weapon” style of this.

In the PF2E version, I really wanted to work within the confines of what was already present in the system and not have to write a bunch of new mechanics. The mauls already have Shove as a trait on them so giving someone the ability to do it as a free action in a limited capacity accomplished the “knocking someone around” theme I wanted to go for here. Additionally, razing already exists as a trait so giving a weapon a limited ability to gain that set me up for exactly what I wanted for this item.

I just wanted to make it known earlier, we’re gearing up for spooky month to hit and we’re pretty excited that it’s just around the corner. Last year we did one spooky item to celebrate, but I think we’re going to go back to a fully themed spooky month. That means all of our items for October will be themed around our favorite holiday, Halloween. We’re excited to show you what we’ve been brewing.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
