"I have to win... or else I'm nothing." "They all respect me when I pilot the EVA." A sequence in which he desires to be loved, both spiritually and physically. All wounds that reach deep into his consciousness. Who is Shinji Ikari? How can he like himself, if others don't like him (except when he pilots the EVA?...)
