We saw Suiren taking care of the baby emperor for Anshi, so I guess that means she was the wet nurse. If so, then Ah-Duo must be her daughter. During the walk through town with Jinshi / Jinka, Maomao wore a dress belonging to Suiren's daughter, so it was essentially Jinshi's mother's dress. Of course, this is all conjecture.

Certainly the full scope of things was beyond her grasp but this is what she and her sister were raised to do, it's not just part of their education it was the focus. Everything went according to her plan, except the... shall we say late game? Or I guess mid-game in this case.

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t discuss or even mention the previous emperor’s reaction to being touched by Anshi’s sister and the mention of him being only able to talk to young girls. I was waiting for them to watch this episode because I was looking forward to their take on this.

2025-07-01 01:08:45 +0000 UTCI don't think a 10 year old girl can baby trap a grown man with any real understanding of what it means or what is going on, no matter how hard her adult-self wants to rationalize it as "ambition". I think it is just a way to cope with what happened to her and take back some sort of agency (a key theme for the women in this show).

2025-06-30 23:25:45 +0000 UTCThe Late Emperor, while definitely a pedophile, seems to have dealt with some kind of trauma that made him terrified of adult women. Trauma does not excuse his actions, but I think his mother started a cycle that caused a lot of suffering.
