We decided to make a DCC episode which includes the interview, along with extra material before and after the discussion in which I speak about Jeffrey Sachs and then, eventually, about the history and and scholarship behind the concept of the deep state.
I encourage everyone to follow Book Club With Jeffrey Sachs. The Professor is a great interviewer, and his choices of books and authors are excellent. They have a YouTube channel and they are on the major podcasting apps.

Given what Xi Jinping recently said about China's desire to help the people of the world to resist those who think they OWN the world, it drives home one aspect of life that seems to drive everything else--it's the "economy ....". I think I heard someone on the program once say that JFK wanted to allow Congress to print money, and ChatGPT returned the comment that he had issued an EO #11110 on June 4, 1963 to authorize the Treasury Secty to issue Silver Certificates, which were backed by silver held by the government. Was JFK trying to preserve some congressional power in the face of private oligarchic influence in the Fed? The EO might have been part of a larger campaign to drain the Washington swamp, and while that campaign hasn't worked for Main Street American citizens , it HAS worked well for the oligarchs, who turned around and gave us the financial crisis of '08. Maybe we should pay more attention to what Xi is trying to tell us. 8.4.25

If so it's usually used to refer to a belief system and policy structure based on US global dominance, advancement of capitalist globalization through all means including warfare, a strict adherence to Israeli expansion, and intense anti-communism and anti-leftism really of most varieties. Historically was a weird amalgamation of right-wing anti-Communism, Prussian militarism, converted Trotskyites, ultra-Zionists, and various capital interests. That's speaking in extremely short and general terms as there are differences within what's termed the neo-cons but for a quick definition I think that's okay.

I think he has proven to be a bit off about China as they have moved to more state-ownership of the economy rather than more "neoliberalism with Chinese characteristics." I haven't followed his more recent work. This may be a superficial thing, but I find him a little dull to listen to.
